The Lab is staffed 24 hours per day, seven daysper week, by certified Medical Technologists, Medical Laboratory Technicisans,Secretaries, Lab Assistants, Phelbotomists, a Histotechnologist and aTranscriptionist. The Lab consists of the following departments:Transfusion Service, Chemistry, Hematology/Coagulation, Microbiology/Serology,Urinalysis and Phlebotomy, histology/Anatomic Pathology and suppertive servicesI(secretarial, office staff and assistants).TheLaboratory is a 24-hour-per-day, seven-day-per-week, on-demand service, withstaff available in the department. The Lab processes 100-125 patients perday, serving physicians, SVHHA, Brattleboro Retreat, occupational Health,Nursing Homes and others. The Histology and Anatomic Laboratory is open 5days a week and services Ambulatory Care, Surgical Services, Radiology andoutpatient physician offices. Scope of service includes frozen sections,stereotactic breast biopsies, sentinel node biopsies and autopsies.The MLT independentlyperforms various qualitative, quantitative clinical laboratory testing andquality control in all section(s) of the laboratory: ie., microbiology,chemistry, blood bank, hematology, and phlebotomy/urinalysis. Allactivities performed are in accordance with established policies, proceduresand standards. Tech must be a team player with good interpersonal andcommunication skills and the ability to work in a fast paced, deadline orientedenvironment. The above level of knowledge, skills and abilities arenormally acquired through the successful completion of an Associate's orBachelor's degree in medical Laboratory technology or related science requiredand an ASCP, NCA or equivalent certification. laboratory computerknowledge and skills preferred.
