Job Title: Maintenance Supervisor, Back-End/Pulp, Power & Recovery
Reports to: Back-End Maintenance Mechanical Superintendent

The Position
You will lead a team of maintenance millwrights and technicians at a fully integrated, complex, manufacturing site that includes pulping, power/recovery, and papermaking processes. The role of the Maintenance Supervisor is to improve workforce productivity and proper execution of preventive maintenance and repair work. All work will follow work package specifications, completing work in a precision state. The maintenance supervisor will assist with troubleshooting equipment issues, improving equipment reliability, and ensuring the safety of personnel involved in mechanical repairs. This position will be a hands-on leader, supervising the mechanical maintenance employees in the Pulp Digesters and Power & Recovery areas.

Job Responsibilities
  • Mechanical knowledge of equipment in these areas will be instrumental to the success of the Supervisor.
  • A demonstrated ability to lead a team of maintenance personnel of various skill-levels and crafts in a highly collaborative high-speed industrial environment to influence and drive process and change management.

Leadership
  • Work with OMC's (Operations Maintenance Coordinator), Maintenance Manager, Planning, and appropriate department personnel to assure that all maintenance activities are coordinated and executed to established plans and schedules.
  • Manages and provides direction for the activities of employees to meet goals while balancing quality, productivity, performance, cost, safety, environmental, and morale of the team to achieve positive results in all areas.
  • Accountable for daily management of maintenance resources, performance management, as well as positive and productive employee and labor relations.
  • Builds organizational capabilities (structure, leadership competencies and organizational talent mix) and reinforces a culture of driving industry leading performance, ensuring the team has proper training and tools to meet or exceed departmental and mill goals and objectives.
  • Prioritize, plan, organize and execute maintenance shutdowns and shop rebuilds.
  • Demonstrates leadership and leads change.
  • Responsible for weekend and nightly mill wide calls.
  • Responsible for reviewing time records and scheduling of employees and payroll approval process.
  • Supports and demonstrates the values of continuous improvement, learning and shared accomplishment.
  • Leads the team to improve processes by identifying and eliminating non-value-added activities (waste); may prepare and distribute information regarding changes to policies and procedures as a result of problem-solving activity.
  • Utilizes strong problem-solving skills to ensure corrective actions for employee and/or production issues are defined and established, bringing open items to closure in a timely manner.
  • Communicates to all levels of the organization as needed and participates with key partners from other areas of the mill to coordinate activities.
  • Solicit feedback from Maintenance Tradespeople, Operations, and other customers to pursue continuous improvement of Job Plan quality and accuracy.
Safety Leadership
  • Guides and develops crews to effectively work in a safe manner, ensuring the safety performance and adherence to safety programs for the department, promoting a safety culture and administering accountability for unsafe behaviors.
  • Provides regular inspections of work areas to assure that good housekeeping practices are followed and that all department area maintenance facilities and tools are kept in good repair.
  • Reviews all safety incidents in the department/assigned area and participates in developing cause maps.
  • Ensures compliance with all environmental OSHA, labor, and government regulation.
Minimum Requirements
Experience:
  • A minimum of five years' maintenance experience in a high-speed manufacturing facility is required. Prior experience in a leadership position with supervisory experience preferred.
  • 5 years of Pulp and Paper experience preferred.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Knowledge of and experience with Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS)
  • Strong computer skills with experience in Microsoft Office Suite, specifically Excel, Word, and MS-Project
  • Communication / presentation and ability to facilitate discussions in a professional and effective manner.
  • Analytical ability and time management
Education Level:
  • High school diploma or GED required. Associate degree or bachelor's degree in industrial or Electro/mechanical Maintenance or Millwright programs preferred.

Physical, Mental, and Visual Skills
  • The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and listen. This position is very active and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling, and climbing as needed during the workday. The employee may be required to lift and/or move items over 10-15 pounds. Job function also requires working in a seated position and utilizing the computer keyboard for continuous periods of time.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee will sometimes need to work near operating equipment. The employee is occasionally exposed to shop elements such as loud noise, dust, and fumes. Office desk work is required.
  • Excellent analytical, interpersonal, and organizational skills required. Excellent verbal and written communication skills needed to function in job capacity. Must be detail oriented and have a working mathematical knowledge.

Employment Terms
  • Full time, Exempt position
  • Salary range: $120,000-150,000 DOE.
