Job Title : Paper Maintenance Mechanical Superintendent

Reports to : Maintenance Manager

The Position

The Paper Maintenance Mechanical Superintendent manages and assists in the completion of the day-to-day activities involving the maintenance of the building/facility, equipment and machinery, including HVAC, building lighting systems, CNC machines, plate product production lines, ovens, grounds keeping, security and overall facility appearance. The position supervises and coordinates the work of employees who repair and maintain building/facility, equipment and machinery.

Job Responsibilities
  • Prepares work schedules, assigns resources and oversees the work product while minimizing overtime and call-in hours.
  • Coaches, counsels and manages performance of direct reports.
  • Develops and maintains a preventative maintenance schedule program for applicable equipment and machinery.
  • Arranges for and manages appropriate third-party contractor support as needed.
  • Prepares budgets and secures estimates and cost quotes as needed.
  • Enforces sound safety and housekeeping practices.
  • Contribute to the creation and implantation of best practice maintenance vision, strategy policies, processes and procedures to aid and improve operational performance.
  • Contribute to new business initiatives and projects and review and communicate the impact on Mill activities.
Qualifications

Minimum Requirements

Experience:
  • 5 years or more paper and/or pulp manufacturing experience.
  • Experience working in a team environment with a union contract.
  • 3 to 5 years of supervisory experience.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • General management skills, paper making, mechanical skills, and budget/forecast development, with a plan to be proficient in leading the roll budget.
  • Demonstrated decision-making skills.
  • Takes initiative in addressing challenges to drive results.
  • Strong leadership with effective communication and collaboration.
  • Exceptional organizational skills.
  • Demonstrated technical capacity.
  • Clear computer literacy.

Education Level:
  • High School diploma or equivalent required.
  • BS Degree in Engineering or equivalent technical experience (Mechanical Engineer Preferred)
Interpersonal/Work Relationship Skills
  • Works with all levels in department from direct supervision of operators to Area Superintendents but also work with all levels outside the department from operators/maintenance personnel up through the General Manager.
  • Administer labor agreement, work with Human Resources and Union representatives
Work Environment

This job operates in a production environment. The employee is exposed to shop elements such as noise, dust, fumes and odors.

Physical Demands

The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, reach, climb and/or balance, to stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, enter confined spaces, scale heights, is exposed to extreme temperatures, and the needs to have the ability lift up to 50lbs.

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time position, with overtime as needed.

Employment Terms
  • Full time, Exempt position
  • Salary range: $155,000-190,000 DOE.

  • 2 weeks paid vacation or more depending on position.
  • Full-time employees receive 160 hours of sick leave upon hire then earn eight hours of sick leave per month.
