Jefferson Healthcare ( ) is looking for a highly skilled and experienced Coding & HIM Manager to join our revenue cycle leadership team. As the Manager, you will lead the HIM and Coding teams , which is responsible for reviewing patient medical records, inputting codes, and generating daily reports to ensure accurate coding assignments in a timely manner. Prior experience with coding is required in order to support the questions and development of the coding team.

In addition to leading the HIM and Coding teams, you will also act as our Privacy Officer , managing activities related to the development, maintenance, and adherence to the organization's policies and procedures regarding the privacy of patient health information. You will ensure compliance with federal, state, and organizational privacy practices, making a significant impact on patient privacy and data security. Prior experience with privacy is not required, just a willingness and desire to learn!

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree or four years equivalent experience required.
  • Certification or Certificate in Progress as a Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) or Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT).
  • Five years of progressively responsible experience as a coder or health information management lead or supervisory experience.
  • Responsible for continuous and ongoing education to maintain required credentials, knowledge of computer systems, coding guidelines, third-party payer requirements, critical access hospital standards, and prospective payment systems.

Responsibilities (please refer to the job description for full list):
  • Provides leadership and training to staff engaged in health information tasks, ensuring productivity standards and quality reports meet established departmental goals, and coordinating the workflow of the services areas throughout the organization.
  • Supervises the ongoing coding, abstracting and analysis of information from discharged inpatient records and from outpatient records for purposes of accurate patient billing, disease, operation and physician indices, and for the maintenance of a statistical database.
  • Ensures records are maintained in accordance with state and federal retention guidelines.
  • Responsible for overseeing release of health information in a timely manner compliant with regulatory requirements.
  • Ensures compliance with audits, established regulatory and accreditation requirements.
  • Monitors deficiencies in coding and works with clinical staff to close any knowledge gaps.
  • Develops and reviews privacy policies and procedures.
  • Performs investigation and resolution of reported patient privacy concerns.
  • Coordinates and manages complaints regarding patient privacy breaches and any disciplinary action in coordination with the employee's manager and human resources business partner, as warranted.
  • Manages the interpretation and dissemination of state and federal guidance regarding privacy matters to JHC leadership and staff while considering continuously changing regulatory landscape.
  • Promptly investigates and responds to OCR inquiries.
  • Participates on the Charge Capture Committee and is involved with fact finding, communication and decision-making regarding charge capture issues
