Position Overview

The Lead Product Developer will be responsible for insurance product development of new and existing portfolio of insurance products offered by HAI Group to its members. Working closely with all stakeholders to provide the best insurance products to market and be the subject matter expert that can convey the product details internally and to our members.

Essential Functions
  • Working with the Manager, Product Development, oversee the product library of approved HAI Group policy forms and ensure it is current, contemporary, compliant, and competitive for assigned business units.
  • Review product set periodically for updates and enhancements.
  • Working within the Product team, draft and maintain the suite of policy forms and corresponding endorsement libraries within the area of expertise and assigned product responsibilities.
    Support and educate underwriting guidelines and underwriting authority. Provide internal and external product training and collaborate with peers and UW community. Provide recommendations to keep products current and appropriate for industry needs (competitiveness, profitability, and compliance).
  • Collaborate with product team to ensure the team has the tools and resources required to analyze, build, or modify insurance products.
  • Continuously research the competitive landscape, economic, industry, product, actuarial trends, risk assessment and financial metrics to determine recommendations for new product/coverage opportunities and strategies. Maintain up to date industry knowledge and leverage member relationships to provide distinctive solutions in the market
  • Provide thought leadership in area of expertise, including drafting white papers and first alerts, and participating on industry panels.
  • Work closely with senior leaders and stakeholders throughout the organization to develop and implement underwriting strategies to achieve performance goals, identify trends, and develop recommendations for improvement, as needed.
  • Partner with actuaries to advance pricing and portfolio segmentation for portfolio analysis and shaping. Support underwriting on key business initiatives and maintain relationships throughout the organization to support multi-disciplinary problem solving and execution and input across all levels of the business.
  • Develop insight into competitors’ strengths, weaknesses and strategies and leverage to drive profitable business and increased market penetration.

Job Requirements

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree strongly preferred
  • 7+ years’ experience developing insurance products for P & C Specialty Lines; focus and expertise in product and underwriting
  • Superior understanding of Product Management & Product Development, inclusive of policy form development, product filings and interaction with actuaries and reinsurers.
  • Strong understanding of all aspects of underwriting execution
  • Understanding of financial concepts
  • Willingness to train / mentor others within Product Development
  • Proficiency in computer programs

  • Advanced Degree
  • Designations: CPCU, AIC, AIS, etc.
