We have a unique opportunity for an individual that has a certified Therapy Dog, as we are seeking an individual who would like to work as a Paraprofessional/Dog Handler in our Animal Assisted Intervention Program. As a Paraprofessional, you will provide additional support in the Special Education classroom by working with individual children or small groups of children to reinforce new lessons. As a Dog Handler, you will provide training and care to students as your dog will be trained to work with students and teachers in our related services department.

Education:

  • College, Associate's Degree or Higher
  • Substitute Teacher Certification, required (we will assist you in attaining this if you do not already have it).

Requirements:

  • Related job fieldwork experience with demonstrated ability to work without constant supervision and an interest in special education.
  • Completion of an approved dog handler training program.
  • Proven experience working as a dog handler.
  • The therapy dog must be certified and need to have passed a local or national therapy dog test as well as passed the Canine Good Citizenship Test.
