Southern Coos Hospital & Health Center (SCHHC) has Per-Diem openings in the Surgical Services Department for a Surgical Nurse (RN). A Surgical RN, using the nursing process, is responsible for assessing the health status of the patient in order to develop an individualized, age-specific plan of care by collecting, categorizing, and interpreting data from documented information, observation, patient/family interviews, and other health care team members. The Surgical RN is responsible for the perioperative nursing care of all assigned patients and assigned additional duties in Pre-Op, OR Suite, PACU, Endoscopy, and Central Sterilization to maintain the department in a state of readiness at all times. The Surgical RN assists Anesthesia during induction, prior to prepping the patient for the surgical procedure. The Surgical Nurse communicates with Surgical Technologists, and other members of the Surgical Team to maintain a continuity of care for patients undergoing invasive and non-invasive procedures. Supervision of the patient immediately post-operatively in a post-anesthesia care unit. The Surgical Nurse reports to the Surgical Services Manager.

Skills, Knowledge, & Experience Requirements:

  • Graduate of an accredited nursing program.
  • Currently licensed as an RN in the state of Oregon.
  • ACLS and BLS current certifications.
  • At least one year of acute care nursing experience is required.
  • One year of surgical experience required
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
