JOB OVERVIEW:

Ultra-sonographer certified in Obstetrical and Gynecological ultrasound examinations; part-time position; must be ARDMS registered; knowledge of AIUM accreditation requirements preferred.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS INCLUDE:

  1. View the developing fetus for signs of any abnormal conditions.
  2. Determine the approximation of the age of the fetus.
  3. View the fetus in the womb to determine size, weight and/or gender along with any potential problems with the fetus.
  4. To test for any problems within the uterus, cervix or vaginal canal.
  5. Take images of small tumors, cysts or any other diseases can be determined at an earlier stage.
  6. Assist in quality assurance programs for SCH and Shenandoah Women’s Health.
  7. Participate in SCH committees as requested by Women’s Health Medical Director.

EDUCATION:

  1. Formal training ranges from a two year vocational or associates degree program to a Bachelor’s degree. The average sonographer will usually take about one year of classes in topics such as anatomy and physiology as well as biology prior to enrolling in a two year program. Other training avenues include the military and resident training programs offered by hospitals or other healthcare facilities.

Licensing and Credentialing

1. Must be certified through the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS).
