Job Summary: Assists pharmacist in the procurement, preparation, dispensing, monitoring and delivering of medication. Delegates tasks and ensures pharmacy technician responsibilities are performed in accordance with hospital policy. Reviews medication procurement invoices for significant changes in volume, patterns, or cost and initiates changes or reports to pharmacy manager when appropriate. Maintains records, invoices and drug inventories in accordance with hospital policy and state and federal pharmacy law. Helps ensure staff compliance by maintaining records and documentation of Pharmacy Technician responsibilities where applicable. Trains and evaluates non-pharmacist pharmacy staff with pharmacy manager/ Director of Pharmacy oversight. Communicates with staff and helps implement processes to improve work flow. Assists with medication recalls and returns. Assists maintaining hospital staff access to automated dispensing machines. Serves as super-user and as a point of contact for automated dispensing machine maintenance and repair. Prepares work schedule and assists with providing coverage for non-pharmacist pharmacy staff. Maintains and orders all necessary operational supplies.

QUALIFICATIONS:

1. High school diploma or equivalent required. Associate degree or greater preferred.

2. Competent in math and communication skills. Experience with electronic health records, pharmacy software, Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook preferred.

3. Prior hospital, pharmacy, or healthcare job related work experience preferred.

4. Completion of registration and/or pharmacy technician certification program as required by state of Vermont Board of Pharmacy rules and regulations.

5. Certified or eligible for certification by a national pharmacy technician certification authority.
