Summit County, located in Utah, is recruiting a part-time Court Security Officer. Performs a variety of entry level duties as a Court Security Officer or attendant who has charge of a court session in the matter of keeping order, custody of the jury, and custody of prisoners while in the court. Salary Range: $27.84 - $29.51 per hour

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Must be a high school graduate, successful completion of (POST) Peace Officers Standards and Training Academy preferred.
  • No experience necessary some law enforcement knowledge preferred.
  • Must be a United State Citizen.
  • Must be 21 years of age.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license.
  • Must be POST certified or a certifiable Law Enforcement Officer at the time of application.
  • Must work rotating shift work.
  • Must complete 40 hours of training per year to maintain certification and all yearly certifications required by law and/or Departmental Policy.
  • Must successfully complete a background investigation, physical agility testing, and psychological evaluation.

Essential Functions

  • Escorts prisoners within the confines of the courtroom facility; prepares inmates for transportation; transports inmates to court and other destinations as assigned by administrative personnel. Secures offenders/detainees that pose security risks by use of a security waist belt, shackles or both when transported from a custodial facility to court rooms.
  • Serves as Bailiff in the Courts; opens and closes court sessions; relays messages to the judge from attorneys and others; protects integrity of the jury during deliberations; delivers meals, messages when the jury is sequestered.
  • Performs a variety of security tasks specific to maintaining courtroom order and security, insuring that courtroom processes are adhered to; serves as courtroom security officer by carrying out specific plans and programs to assure the safety of court personnel and protection of facilities; follows specific instructions from appropriate supervisors.
  • Screens persons entering court building for possession of weapons, contraband and prohibited articles by providing operation of x-ray, hand held scanning wand, and other metal detecting equipment at public entrances or other appropriate locations.
  • Arrests persons who violate court administrative order, state statutes, and/or county ordinances in the Officer=s presence by taking the offender into custody, detaining the offender pending an investigation, or issuing a citation.
  • Serves court orders, i.e. summons, subpoenas, warrants, detention orders, etc.
  • May transfer inmates from the County jail to court.
  • Performs related duties as assigned.
