Classification:  Part Time/Full Time Non-Exempt

Reports to:  Executive Director

Compensation $72,500 - $82,000

 

The South Asian Helpline and Referral Agency (SAHARA) is a non-profit organization providing services to survivors of all forms of abuse in the South Asian community by providing them with culturally sensitive and linguistically specific services. JOB SUMMARY

The Mental Health Counselor will directly interact with clients by applying specialized clinical knowledge and advanced clinical skills to assess and support mental health program activities. Working closely with the direct services team, the counselor will provide individual, family and group psychotherapy as well as in-depth case management to comprehensively address needs and help clients restore emotional wellbeing. SAHARA’s clients are often survivors of gender-based violence, including domestic abuse and sexual assault. 

Responsibilities:

·       Provide individual and group counseling/therapy sessions to survivors of domestic abuse, elder abuse, and neglect with a culturally competent lens and in accordance with the appropriate mental health board laws and code of ethics.

·       Provide crisis intervention, conduct mental health intake and assessments safety planning, and provide appropriate intervention and referrals.

·       Complete mental health documentation, case management documentation including but not limited to client plans performance outcome, progress report.

·       Provide medical and legal referrals to community partners, other professional requirements as needed.

·       Provide supportive legal, criminal justice, and housing advocacy as needed in the form of supportive letters, assisting in obtaining protective orders, law enforcement reports and interview accompaniment.

·       Attend weekly supervisory meetings with Licensed therapy supervisor if unlicensed to comply with the California Board of Behavioral Services.

·       Plan and facilitate support weekly groups/workshop/presentations on program specific topics promoting emotional well-being.

·       Ensure documentation of all mental health services provided for requirements to comply with appropriate grant reporting and tracking.

·       Track and maintain client records in a timely organized manner.

·       Participate in outreach and prevention program activities and opportunities that will help gain organizational visibility through information booth, presentations, and community events under the guidance of the director and program team.

 

Qualifications:

•        Bilingual in English and fluency in understanding and speaking one or more South Asian languages.

•        Master’s degree in counseling or social work.  MFT intern, LMFT, LCSW. Psychologist. (Licensed therapist also encouraged to apply)

•        Well versed in the laws and ethics that govern the mental health field.

•       Unbiased sensitivity and deep awareness of South Asian cultural nuances

•        Excellent oral and written communication skills.

•        High degree of professionalism and accountability.

•        Ability to maintain confidentiality and discretion.

•        Excellent organizational skills with the ability to multi-task.

•        Excellent client-centered attendance and punctuality.

•        Proficient in Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, Power Point)

•        Valid California Driver's License and transportation.

•        Completion of 40-65 Hr Domestic Violence/Sexual Assualt Certification.

 

Compensation: $72,500 - $82,500

Travel Requirements: Local travel required.
