Position Description:

The Design Engineer collaborates with clients to take their design concepts from drawing through prototype to successful product solution. This role may create or modify designs based on inputs from customers which may be drawings, concepts, specifications, and other requirements. This role requires a broad understanding of multiple disciplines across different markets and applications. The Design Engineer will devise new or adapt existing methods, techniques and procedures to meet customer requirements. This role is expected to adhere to all company policies and safety protocols.

Key Competencies Required to be Successful as a Design Engineer:

  • Analyses the client's component design and provides guidance to refine it to meet desired application requirements.
  • Translates the client's designs to prototype components through innovative and reliable mechanical product development methods.
  • Leads development and manufacture of protype client designs, refining and testing for manufacturability, reliability, cost effectiveness and profitability.
  • Engages with the sales & production teams on new applications to ensure design for manufacturability and tooling to ensure efficient and capable production methods and processes.
  • Evaluates and develops manufacturing processes by designing and researching best practices; applying knowledge of product design, fabrication and assembly processes, tooling and fixturing design and applications, materials and quality control standards; conferring with equipment vendors and soliciting observations from a broad range of internal and external team members.
  • Assures product and process quality through the development and implementation of testing methods.
  • Supports development of training methods and implements new procedures and processes.
  • Collaborates with the sales and production teams and other personnel to tackle procedural and quality issues that are related to the production and delivery of good quality product.
  • Coordinates and actively participates in project meetings, documenting decisions, and facilitating regular updates to internal and external stakeholders regarding project status.
  • Builds and maintains expertise in industry trends and best practices, leveraging knowledge to improve manufacturing engineering methodologies and drive innovation.
  • Assist with the evaluation of defective materials received from vendors and communicates feedback as needed.
  • Supports periodic review/audit of work practices comparative to documented procedures and reports to supervisor deviations.
  • Participates in the writing/review of manufacturing documentation (SOPs, MPMs, Deviations).
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Education/Certification/Licenses

  • Requires B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering, or related field.
  • 5+ years of design engineering or manufacturing engineering experience.
  • Solid understanding in design for manufacturing methodology and practical experience in application.
  • Proficient in Windows Microsoft office, manufacturing ERP systems, and Auto-Cad (2d/3D).

Salary Range:

  • $90,000 - $100,000
