Job Description:  

The Pond Guy / Airmax, Inc. is the top manufacturer of pond, lake, and water garden products, including aeration systems, fountains, and water treatments. Our engineers are foundational to our extensive line of products. The Pond Guy sells nationwide to end-users and a network of Airmax distributors. We are seeking a Product Development Engineer to join our existing product development team! You will develop, design, and create cutting-edge products for The Pond Guy and Airmax brands.

 Here are examples of the actual work your day would include: 

  •  Design and develop new products, focusing on DFMA and mechanical aspects  
  • Manage the full launch team during the launch process as the product subject matter expert, overseeing gates one through three of a five-gate launch process 
  • Review component and assembly drawings for accuracy and provide direction for GD&T  
  • Utilize 3D CAD software (SolidWorks) and 3D printer slicers (Cura) for product optimization and development 
  • Prototyping product samples for testing and trade shows utilizing available shop equipment, 3D printers, or in coordination with outside vendors 
  • Create/document new standards for design validation and testing products in development 
  • Perform technical specification and design reviews, pre-production builds, and support product hand-off to production 
  • Direct/coordinate PLM, manufacturing, construction, installation, maintenance, support, documentation, and testing activities to ensure compliance with specifications, codes, or customer requirements 
  • Perform detailed calculations to compute and establish manufacturing, construction, or installation standards or specifications 
  • Labor, material, and construction cost analysis for budget preparation  
  • Prepare specifications for purchases of materials or equipment 
  • In support of ongoing quality, investigate customer and public feedback to determine the nature and extent of problems as directed 
  • Inspect completed installations and observe operations to ensure conformance to design and equipment specifications and compliance with operational, safety, and environmental standards 
  • Compile data and write reports regarding existing or potential mechanical engineering studies or projects 
  • Benchmark competitive products 

Job Requirements  

To excel in this role, you should possess the following knowledge and skills: 

  • Minimum 3-5 years product development experience (ex. Product Engineer or R&D/Advanced Engineer) 
  • Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering preferred 
  • Computer-Aided Design (CAD) proficiency required (SolidWorks preferred) 
  • Product lifecycle management and GD&T experience
  • Knowledge of standard terms and techniques used in industrial design and manufacturing 
  • Injection molding, roto molding, and mold design experience a plus 
  • 3D printing software and procedural experience a plus 
  • Machining and fabrication experience a plus 

This position requires manual dexterity for working with small components, the ability to complete repetitive motions for long periods, handling and carrying 25 – 50lb packages, managing packages up to 150lb, and extensive standing and stooping. 

Our Airmax Product Development Engineer position requires proficient use of a computer system. It also involves frequent interaction with engineers and other departments (Purchasing, Production, Customer Service, etc.) Organization, follow-up, and communication skills are essential factors in the daily administration of this position. 

We need an Airmax Product Development Engineer with a positive attitude who doesn’t use the words “can’t” and “impossible.” The ideal candidate is smart, resourceful, and ready to get things done. 

  Availability  

This onsite position is located at 15425 Chet’s Way, Armada, MI, 48005. The hours for this role are Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.
