Shipping & Receiving Associate (LTL) – Job Description


Summary

 

Pick and package merchandise and build out skids for shipment through LTL freight. This position is responsible for accurately pulling merchandise from stock, packaging it into durable cartons, and building out skids to survive the rigors of LTL transportation. This position also receives incoming goods and processes them for use in the facility.

 


Level of Work


This position is responsible for the day to day processing of individual shipments as assigned by the Plant Supervisor. This includes picking of materials to fill orders, packing the materials appropriately, and building out skids to ensure durability during the transportation process. The Associate will complete all needed shipping paperwork, and sometimes enter orders into the 3PL shipping portal. This position is also responsible for assisting in the receipt of incoming goods. This position will assist with the processing of parcel shipments as needed. The Associate also support the efforts of the Plant Supervisor on an as needed basis.



Job Dimensions

 

 Responsible for the daily shipment of customer and subcontracting orders as well as the receipt of incoming goods.

  

 

Primary Responsibilities

  1. Reviews and picks products for orders as assigned by the Plant Supervisor
  2. Packages picked products to ensure durability and maintain the integrity of the product throughout the shipping and transportation process
  3. Builds out skids for orders to ensure durability and maintain the integrity of the product throughout the shipping and transportation process
  4. Completes all required paperwork for shipments assigned to them
  5. Note and communicate all shortages to Packaging and Production personnel
  6. Load and unload trucks as they arrive and in a timely fashion
  7. Enter shipments into the appropriate system to schedule trucks as needed
  8. Contact trucking companies via phone as needed to ensure timely pick-ups
  9. Process the paperwork for incoming goods
  10. Work with the Purchasing Administrator to assist in the receiving process
  11. Assist with the processing of LTL shipments as needed

 


Physical Demands/Working Conditions

 

The employee must possess the ability to lift up to 80 lbs. repeatedly and must be able to walk, balance, bend, carry, push, reach, sit and stand. Must also be able to stand and operate for up to 7 hours. The employee must be able to hear, see and communicate verbally to exchange information. Manual dexterity to complete shipping functions quickly and accurately and work with production and office equipment daily.



Education/License Requirements


High School Graduate; Forklift experience 


 

Experience Requirements (Skills, Knowledge and Abilities)

 

  1. Must be a competent and licensed powered lift truck operator
  2. Excellent attention to detail
  3. Working knowledge of materials
  4. Intimate knowledge of LTL shipping process and the best practices needed to ensure shipment integrity
  5. Strong communication skills
  6. Ability to multitask in a busy environment
  7. Positive attitude in a working environment
  8. Experience working independently and in a team setting
