PRN; As Needed

Performs various therapy modalities to patients as ordered by the physician or based on an approved protocol for the administration of oxygen, aerosol, or bronchodilator medications. Manage ventilators and other diagnostic or monitoring devices. Keeps appropriate clinical and clerical patient records. Performs patient assessment and education. Participates in staff education and supervision as necessary. Supervises equipment and departmental supply maintenance. Performs other duties as assigned by the Supervisor or Manager.

Responsibilities
  • Demonstrates up to date clinical knowledge and maintains the ability to care for patients and perform various therapy modalities in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Demonstrates ability to clean and maintain a safe environment as well as maintain, clean, and disinfect hospital owned equipment that is vital to patient care and safety.
  • Demonstrate ability to adequately chart all patient care in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Demonstrates the UnityPoint Health Values and Standards of Behaviors as well as adheres to policies and procedures and safety guidelines.
  • Demonstrates ability to meet business needs of department with regular, reliable attendance.
  • Employee maintains current licenses and/or certifications required for the position.
  • Practices and reflects knowledge of HIPAA, TJC, DNV, OSHA and other federal/state regulatory agencies guiding healthcare.
  • Completes all annual education and competency requirements within the calendar year.
  • Is knowledgeable of hospital and department compliance requirements for federally funded healthcare programs (e.g. Medicare and Medicaid) regarding fraud, waste and abuse. Brings any questions or concerns regarding compliance to the immediate attention of hospital administrative staff.  Takes appropriate action on concerns reported by department staff related to compliance.
Qualifications
  • Registered Respiratory Therapist Qualifications:
  • Associates degree in Respiratory Therapy.
  • Licensed in the state of Iowa as a Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP).
  • Maintains Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) with the NBRC.
  • Basic computer skills, read, writes, comprehends and speaks English.
  • Certified Respiratory Therapist Qualifications:
  • Associates degree in respiratory therapy
  • Licensed in the state of Iowa as a Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP).
  • Maintains Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT) with the NBRC.
  • Basic computer skills, read, writes, comprehends and speaks English.
