SUMMARY
The Sr. Project Engineer plans and directs all aspects of capital engineering projects from design through startup. Maintains awareness of current and developing processing machinery trends from raw material handing through finished product with the ability to apply both in a fast-paced environment. Well versed in working with customers, machine suppliers and material vendors to optimize product performance. Complies with Wolfgang Confectioners established policies and objectives. Utilizing best practices provides expert technical project management for new equipment installations, and/or continuous improvement initiatives, contractor management, safety testing, raw materials, tooling, and all processing equipment used in the organization. Assures and provides training and technical leadership to appropriate personnel regarding equipment operations, standards, process settings and raw materials. Additionally, this role requires the management of other programs, as assigned. This is a highly technical position that will directly impact food safety and quality.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Organizes and manages projects, defines scope, charter, schedule, and develops capital budget estimates.
  • Develops and updates process line P&ID's.
  • Evaluates, defines process requirements, and selects equipment for project needs.
  • Collaborates with internal and external stakeholders and/or customers
  • Develops scope of work documents and completes competitive bidding for installation
  • Directly manages contractors through installation for workplace safety, food safety and ensures design compliance.
  • Supports startup and drives to complete project deliverables.
  • Assists with promotion of Food Safety and Quality initiatives to contractors and vendors.
  • Complies with, demonstrates, and promotes company core values and behavioral standards.

TECHNICAL SKILL REQUIREMENTS:
§ Stays current on confectionery processing trends and equipment.
§ Expert in common confectionery equipment to include Enrobing, Molding, Extrusion and associated equipment.
§ Advanced knowledge of raw material handing to include chocolate tempering and batching systems.
§ Well versed in confectionery materials with a solid understanding of product and equipment relationships.
§ Understands and approves raw material and finished product specifications relative to machine tooling and capabilities.
§ Experienced in overall line design to optimize line OEE.
§ Familiar with common cleaning methods and application to processing machinery to achieve compliance and reduce change over times.
Experience, Competencies and Education
• Minimum BA or BS degree (preferred) food engineering, mechanical engineering, chemical engineering, or related field.
• Minimum (6) years related food processing engineering and safety experience ( required )
• Successful project execution of packaging projects ranging from $100k to $5MM+ Strong verbal and written communication skills
• Ability to travel as needed
• Excellent problem-solving skills and analytical thinking
• Strong client and team relationship skills
• Strong understanding of business principles and processes
• This position functions within multiple levels of the organization, requiring the possession of strong collaborative and influencing skills
Physical Requirements
The ability to spend minimum of 5 hours sitting while working on a computer, telephone.
• Ability to reach, bend, stoop and lift 25-50 pounds as needed.
• Ability to see information in print form and/or electronically.
• Ability to travel within facilities, trade shows, vendors, and or contractor locations.
Language Skills
• Ability to develop, read, analyze, and interpret specification documents and illustrations
• Ability to respond effectively to inquiries or complaints
• Ability to make effective and persuasive speeches and presentations to the Board of Directors, company stakeholders, and trade groups and other public entities
• Bi-lingual preferred
