Job Summary
The Patient Care Technician is a vital member of the patient care team. The Patient Care Technician, under the direction of a Registered Nurse, collects patient information and provides direct patient care. The Patient Care Technician is responsible for complete and accurate data collection and recording, completion of routine and delegated direct care activities, and communicating and collaborating with the Registered Nurse to prioritize workload so that patient care outcomes are achieved.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
• Assist with patient's assessment and care planning
o Check and record vital signs; measure intake and output; collect specimens.
• Assist patients in meeting nutrition needs
o Pass food trays; check food trays; assist in feeding patients
• Assist patients with mobility
o Turn and position patients
o Transfer patients to wheelchair/bed
• Assist patients with personal hygiene and daily living activities
• Answer call signal promptly
• Change patient bedding
• Carry out isolation precautions as required.
• Assists with stock/checking supplies for the unit
• Attends meetings and in-services as required
• Protect patient privacy and maintain confidentiality
• Demonstrates a friendly and positive attitude
• Assists with the orientation of new Patient Care Technicians
• Demonstrates clear ownership of workplace and patient safety.
• Reports mistakes, near misses, adverse events and quality and safety concerns.
• Participates in the development and implementation of safety and quality improvement activities.
• Other duties as may be assigned.

Job Qualification Requirements:

Education: High School diploma or GED required.

Licensure/Certification: Certified Nursing Assistant preferred, but not required. CPR Certification must be obtained within one month of hire.

Experience: 2 years of experience as a Patient Care Technician in a hospital setting is preferred. Work experience providing direct acute patient care is required. Knowledge of medical terms and abbreviations required.

Physical Requirements: This position will require you to lift up to 50 lbs or less frequently, may lift up to 100 lbs. occasionally. Walk and stand most of the day, bend and stoop frequently, push and pull equipment and carts on a regular basis. Manual dexterity required. Visual perception and listening skills essential.
