This position will report directly to the Director of Engineering.

Specific:

  • Develop high yield, cost efficient, manufacturable processes as appropriate for target production volumes
  • Provide subject matter expertise for process development for free space and fiber coupled optical alignment and measurement. Understand alignment techniques, optical systems, and tricks of the trade needed to develop manufacturable alignment processes
  • Understand tools available for optical alignment; keep up to date with advancements in hardware and tooling. Recommend and implement new equipment and techniques to improve optical alignment capabilities
  • Guide the design of fixtures required to assemble, align, and test optomechanical systems; in collaboration with Automation Engineer, develop automated alignment stations and procedures for high volume production
  • Provide data based evidence that developed processes meet product requirements through design of experiments and statistical process control
  • Generate documentation of the process development lifecycle for each project; contribute to business knowledge repositories for fixtures, materials, and process parameters
  • Create work instructions and provide training on resultant processes to Manufacturing personnel
  • Troubleshoot equipment and optical workstations to quickly resolve production-impacting issues
  • Define and implement preventive maintenance protocols for optical equipment

Requirements:

  • M.S. in Optical Science/Engineering or Physics
  • 5 years of hands-on experience aligning and testing optical systems on optical breadboards
  • 3 years of programming experience
  • 3 years of manufacturing experience
  • Excellent English communication skills and willingness to learn
