Summary:

As a Design Engineer specializing in structural design, you will play a crucial role in our product development process. You will be responsible for creating robust and efficient designs, collaborating with cross-functional teams, and ensuring the seamless transition from design to manufacturing. The ideal candidate will bring a strong background in structural engineering related to industrial equipment, a passion for innovation, and a proven track record of successful product development.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

Develop and optimize structural designs for manufacturing processes, ensuring they meet industry standards, regulations, and customer specifications.

Utilize SolidWorks to create 3D models, detailed drawings, and simulations for structural components. Demonstrate expertise in the software to drive efficient and effective design iterations.

Work closely with cross-functional teams, including mechanical engineers, manufacturing experts, and quality assurance, to integrate structural designs seamlessly into the overall product development process.

Identify and specify appropriate materials for structural components, considering factors such as strength, durability, and cost-effectiveness.

Collaborate with the prototyping team to create and test prototypes, making necessary adjustments to designs based on testing results.

Generate comprehensive design documentation, including bills of materials (BOMs), assembly instructions, and specifications, to facilitate the manufacturing process.

Stay abreast of industry trends, technological advancements, and best practices. Implement improvements to existing designs and processes to enhance product performance and manufacturability.

Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Structural Engineering, or a related field.

Proven experience as a Manufacturing Design Engineer with a focus on structural design.

Proficiency in SolidWorks and other relevant design software. Strong understanding of structural analysis and finite element analysis (FEA).

Familiarity with manufacturing processes such as machining, welding, and assembly.

Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.

Effective communication and collaboration skills.

Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.

Any relevant certifications in SolidWorks or engineering would be a plus.

Ability to read and comprehend complex instructions, detailed correspondence and memos.

Ability to write detailed correspondence.

Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, vendors and other employees of the organization.

Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals.

Ability to calculate and interpret financial measures such as percentages, margins, ratios and other comparative statistics.

Must be able to interpret graphs and other visual representations used to present data.

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.

Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Must be able to read and understand various service manuals, electrical diagrams, and troubleshooting guides.

Must be able to read and understand the Thompson Pump & Manufacturing Co., Inc. Employee Handbook, safety plans/programs, safety training materials and SDS sheets.
