Respiratory Therapist/Pulmonary Function Tech

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Assists in the diagnosis, treatment, and management of patients with pulmonary disorders.
2. Perform diagnostic tests on patients including; spirometry measurements, vital lung capacity, functional residual capacity, determination of misdistribution of inspired air, arterial blood gas assays, and other pulmonary function testing as needed.
3. Explains test and techniques to patient before administering pulmonary test.
4. Determines quality of patient's performance and test by observing behavior and effort during testing maneuvers.
5. Terminates patient testing upon notice of patient discomfort, troubled medical status, or inability to perform test and notifies manager or medical staff.
6. Provide patient education including instructions in the proper use of inhalers and nebulizers.
7. Teach patients and families about disease symptoms and triggers, smoking cessation, exercise/rehab classes, and a variety of inhaled medications.
8. Complete all necessary documentation including billing forms when needed.
9. Prepares, maintains and calibrates pulmonary function testing equipment.
10. Provides educational in-service to staff
11. Performs all other duties as assigned by management
EDUCATION /EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Graduate of an accredited Respiratory Therapy program
  • Requires an associate's degree
CERTIFICATIONS & LICENSES:
  • BLS - AHA approved required
  • NJ Respiratory Care License required
  • Certified Respiratory Therapist
  • ACLS & PALS (preferred)
  • Certified/Registered Pulmonary Function Technologist (Preferred)
  • Registered Respiratory Therapist (preferred)
