Component Engineer

The Component Engineer oversees part lifecycle management, selection, and maintenance for military and commercial aerospace power conversion and distribution products. This role requires collaboration with Engineering, Program Management, Procurement, and Operations to ensure timely delivery and long-term product sustainability.

Responsibilities:


  • Lead in identifying/selecting primary and alternate active/passive components for new and existing designs.
  • Manage and execute the Component Obsolescence Management Plan (OMP).
  • Support DMSMS reporting for the company and customers.
  • Collaborate with Purchasing/Production to monitor component availability and end-of-life status, enabling proper planning for alternate selection, redesign, lifetime buys, or product end-of-life.
  • Select component alternates to address lead time and availability issues.
  • Maintain part catalog technical data and liaise with manufacturers for failure investigations.
  • Plan and schedule testing of alternate components for compliance and reliability.
  • Generate Engineering Change Notices (ECNs) for obsolescence efforts.
  • Review new technologies and quality trends, recommending improvements for reliability.
Requirements:


  • Preferred BS in Electrical Engineering or a related technical field.
  • 5+ years of relevant experience.
  • Knowledge of microelectronics and electro-mechanical packaging fabrication/assembly.
  • Ability to read and understand specifications, schematics, mechanical drawings, datasheets, and standards.
  • Strong analytical and communication skills, including report writing.
  • Proficiency with general PC tools (e.g., Microsoft Word, Excel) and obsolescence management tools (e.g., SiliconExpert, Epicor ERP).
  • Ensure compliance with applicable processes and procedures.
  • Physical requirements include occasional standing, walking, sitting, using hands, climbing stairs, stooping, kneeling, crouching, talking, and hearing. Must occasionally lift/move up to 30 lbs.
