Why does the job exist?
This position will regularly assign, instruct and review the work of medical specialists and/or other assigned staff. Employees at this lever will provide services or complex caseloads with the highest degree of independence and autonomy.
How does it get done?
This position will provide primary healthcare, including medical diagnosis, treatment, prescription of medication and therapied, patient counseling, and staff consultation within area of specialization. May conduct daily on site rounds for inpatients settings. Orders and interprets laboratory tests, diagnostic imaging, and other tests. Refers patients to other providers or care setting for specialized care. May provide clinical direction to nursing staff in providing healthcare or treatment to patients. May provide clinical supervision or oversight and consultation to first level advanced practice practitioners and nursing staff, including review of documentation. May direct the development and administration of schedules and staff assignments for clinic operations or for other care settings. Participates in the development of policy and procedure. May participate as a member of assigned medical and administrative committees, such as quality improvement, licensing, infection control, pharmacy and policy and procedure.

Patients in the Rural Health Clinic and the Acute Care Facility.

Minimum Qualification
Licensed by the New Mexico Board of Nursing as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN), Certified Nurse Practitioner (CNP), Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS), or as a Certified Nurse Midwife (CNM) by the New Mexico Department of Health and two (2) years of experience as it pertains to the essential duties and responsibilities of the classification. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling two (2) years may substitute for the required experience.
Employment Requirements
Must posses a valid drivers license and successfully pass a background check.
Working Conditions
Work is performed in an office setting, extensive computer use, fax machines, telephones, projectors and calculators knowledge, and may be bending or standing for long periods of time.
