JOB DESCRIPTION - Lunar Rover Mission Operations Integration Engineer

NASA, working with private industry, is planning our return to the Lunar Surface. For the first time since 1972, we are planning surface operations on the Moon. For the first time ever, we will conduct Lunar Polar explorations on the surface. These explorations will include both human and robotic missions. Join the team planning the first robotic lunar polar surface exploration. At NASA in Silicon Valley, we are designing a Lunar prospecting mission to search for water ice in a polar region on the Moon. The VIPER rover will launch as early as 2023.

QTS is seeking a Rover Operations Integration Engineer to join the VIPER Mission System Team.  The Rover Operations Integration Engineer will be responsible for the design and planning of rover operations, as well as the development of the mission execution plans. This includes all aspects of operations - driving, command and control, rover systems management, inputs to rover design for operability, the design and roles of the rover mission operations positions and operational processes.  Your responsibilities will include the design of rover operations processes, procedures, flight rules, command procedures, timeline inputs and representing Mission Operations to the rover design and engineering team.
 

REQUIREMENTS - Lunar Rover Mission Operations Integration Engineer

Education : BS degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or related field.

Year(s) of Experience : 5+ years of experience in spacecraft operations on flown missions, either real time command and control in Earth orbit, and/or Cis-Lunar space, and/or sequenced operations in interplanetary space, or on a planetary surface

Citizenship: Must be a U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident

Qualifications, Skills and Traits:
 
  • 4 + years of experience in rover operations on flown space mission, including Rover operational process development:
    • Mission rules
    • Procedures
    • Mission Timelines
    • Operational Processes
    • Command Procedures and processes
  • Experience in development, test, and simulation of spacecraft/rover operations
  • Experience representing mission operations in spacecraft design


Desired Skills:
 

  • End to end mission experience, from design through operations
  • Experience in training for rover operations on flown missions
