Position: Buyer II

Position Reports to: Regional Purchasing Manager

FLSA Status: Salary, Exempt

Position Summary

To maintain the inventories of raw materials and packaging at the appropriate levels to support customer demands.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities

  • Ensure the procurement of raw materials, packaging, maintenance, repair, and operations (MRO) to support demand.
  • Manage inventory levels against sales forecasts and customer orders.
  • Coordinate and communicate with all strategic suppliers to ensure capacity and capabilities meet customer demand and company stocking levels.
  • Check on previously ordered raw material and update departments appropriately.
  • Communicate and coordinate all material changes (such as specification changes) with other internal departments (technical, sales, supply chain) as required.
  • Manage special inventory projects, supplier managed inventory, (SMI), customer unique, etc.
  • Solve procurement and/or shipping discrepancies; working with accounts payable, suppliers, and other internal departments as it relates to the purchasing function.
  • Meet with supplier representatives to address supply or quality issues and ensure that the issues are resolved.
  • Ensure supplier information in the system is accurate.
  • Negotiate with vendors to expedite deliveries.
  • Communicate with incoming Quality Control regarding quality issues on any raw material and return materials to the vendor as required.
  • Responsible for participating and engaging in continuous improvement projects across the organization. 
  • Travel to other HEXPOL locations may be required. 
  • Perform any other project/task as assigned by Management.

Education, Skills, and Experience Requirements.

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration or related field. Experience may be considered in lieu of education.
  • Five (5) years’ experience in purchasing/inventory planning; preferably within the rubber or chemical related industries. 
  • Three (3) years’ supervisory experience.
  • Advanced experience with enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Excellent computer/systems skills – MS Office (Excel/Word/PowerPoint/Outlook).
  • Excellent cooperation and collaboration skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to handle multiple tasks and meet tight deadlines.
