Berry Harvest Seasonal Helper

Rodale Institute is seeking a friendly, motivated professional with strong customer service skills to help run the Berry U-Pick station, hand harvest and machine harvest operations at the Pacific Northwest Organic Center at Cascadian Farm.  This individual will handle daily U-Pick operations, including but not limited to: handling opening/closing procedures and checkout processes, greeting visitors, and addressing customer inquiries.  This individual will also assist the farm manager with hand and machine harvest of berries, maintenance of crops and grounds/facilities maintenance.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Develop a broad and detailed knowledge of Rodale Institute’s major projects and programs to best interact with customers and ensure a positive visitor experience
• Greet all visitors with enthusiasm and welcome customer questions
• Provide U-Pick instructions and process customer transactions
• Responsible for daily set-up and tear-down of U-Pick station
• Hand harvest of raspberries and blueberries for fresh sales
• Assist with machine harvest of blueberries
• Assist with building and infrastructure cleaning as needed
• Assist with farm grounds maintenance as needed
• Other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Excellent customer service skills required
• Positive and helpful attitude
• Strong organizational skills
• Keen interest in learning
• Ability to understand and communicate scientific information
• Knowledge of organic gardening and farming preferred

HOURS:

• This is a seasonal position, July-August, 25-40 hours per week
• Required shifts include Friday – Sunday each week.  U-Pick hours of operation are 8:00AM-4:00PM; scheduled shifts may vary to support daily set-up and tear-down of U-Pick station
• Additional hours may be available Monday – Thursday to assist with fresh machine harvest
• Candidate must have weekend and holiday availability

COMPENSATION/BENEFITS:

• Competitive hourly wage ($18.00 per hour)

• Free U-Pick berries after work
