What You'll Do as an Enforcement Agent: Ohio Department of Public Safety - Ohio State Highway Patrol/Ohio Investigative Unit Work Hours: 8 - 10 hour shifts. Hours subject to the needs of the organization. Working days and hours may vary and may be required to travel overnight. Subject to call back. A sample weekly schedule may consist of Wednesday through Saturday, Wednesday 8am - 6pm, Thursday, Friday, Saturday 5pm - 3am. Positions will be filled at multiple locations including: Akron, Athens, Cincinnati, Cleveland, Columbus, and Toledo. Individuals selected for hire and not OPOTC certified will be required to attend a 26 week basic peace officer training course. FOR ADDITIONAL INFORMATION Please visit Independently or under general supervision, plans & conducts covert & overt criminal &/or administrative investigations (i.e., persons, residences, clubs, associations, bars, stores & illegal businesses, as well as areas around them) for violations pertaining to Ohio Revised Code, Ohio Administrative Code, & federal regulations regarding liquor control, Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) & tobacco; Utilizes under cover identity &/or state enforcement vehicle & a variety of electronic devices (i.e. audio, visual, photographic, etc.) to conduct operations & covert surveillance; Interviews witnesses, victims &/or suspects in custodial & non-custodial situations; Plans, prepares, obtains, & executes search warrants at businesses, residences, vehicles, &/or digital devices; Makes arrests &/or prepares & issues administrative violation notices; Transports arrested suspects to custodial facilities (i.e., county & city jails); Collects, records, & safeguards evidence which can include counting & making inventory of large sums of cash, debit/benefit cards, guns, &/or drugs; Researches criminal & civil records online or in person; Requests &/or serves grand jury subpoenas for records & reviews records to determines evidentiary value; Prepares & submits evidence for forensic examination; Drafts & submits reports of investigations to supervisors for eventual submission to various prosecutors or the Ohio Attorney General's Office; Utilizes case management system to document activities, statements, intelligence, property, evidence & reports; Receives & serves Orders of the Liquor Control Commission regarding Ohio licensed establishments; Testifies in municipal, state &/or federal courts of law & before various commissions & state agencies (i.e., Ohio Liquor Control, Casino Control, & Ohio Lottery Commission; Ohio Department of Job & Family Services, & Ohio Department of Health) administrative hearings. Establishes & maintains positive working relationships with other law enforcement agencies & works cooperatively on joint investigations &/or multi-jurisdictional task forces; Responds to calls for service from the general public &/or local, state, & federal law enforcement agencies (e.g., assist agencies with complex covert & overt investigations & operations; collects & analyzes computer generated data as it relates to ongoing investigations or to detect potential violations within their scope of authority; provides guidance to Ohio law enforcement agencies regarding licensed & unlicensed establishments &/or other subjects in violation of Ohio liquor, gambling, SNAP & tobacco laws; prepares & issues administrative citations on behalf of Ohio law enforcement agencies when a violation has been reported); Coordinates operations with outside law enforcement personnel, victim advocate groups & local court systems. Provides field training & guidance to probationary enforcement agents; Conducts trainings &/or delivers speeches or presentations on various related topics (i.e., Ohio Liquor Control Act, SNAP fraud, Alcohol Server Knowledge, Sober Truth, etc.) to educate the public, businesses, law enforcement, & governmental personnel; Performs other related duties as assigned. Possible disqualifiers: Recently used any drug of abuse that was not prescribed by a physician; recently used marijuana; ever sold or established a pattern of abuse of any felony drug of abuse; pleaded guilty or no contest to, or had a conviction for, driving under the influence of alcohol and or drugs within the past five years or more than one charge ever; currently in the pretrial process for any criminal charge other than a traffic violation; currently have six or more points on a driving record in any jurisdiction; ever been convicted of or pleaded guilty or no contest to aggravated vehicular homicide or aggravated vehicular assault; failed to meet the requirements of child support statutes, or a court order relating to the subject, due to a reason other than an inability to pay; ever been an instigator in any act covered in Chapter 2907 Sex Offenses of the Ohio Revised Code; ever been convicted of domestic violence or a domestic violence related offense. High school diploma or GED; valid driver's license; successful completion of department required physical agility standards including vision & hearing testing & background check.
