About the Position
We are seeking an enthusiastic veterinarian to join Dr. Stephen Kinney and the rest of the highly trained team at Gray Animal Center, as we expand to meet the growing needs of the community. This is an exceptional opportunity for both new graduates and experienced veterinarians who are interested in broadening their scope of practice to include exotic and wildlife care. Our relationship with the Maine Wildlife Park allows us to provide care for bears, mountain lions, raccoons, and even the occasional Canadian lynx! The ideal candidate will have experience and/or strong interest in performing surgery and will have access to the equipment and resources needed to provide excellent medical care. They will also have access to the education and mentorship needed to pursue their professional goals. Our practice provides modern care built on family values to our clients and patients. We serve pets of all kinds, including dogs, cats, birds and all exotic pets. Our hospital includes three exam rooms, a large lobby, and is designed to provide warmth and comfort to both our clients and their pets.

Responsibilities
  • Examine animals to assess their health and diagnose problems
  • Treat and dress wounds
  • Perform surgery on animals
  • Test for and vaccinate against diseases
  • Operate medical equipment, such as x-ray machines
  • Advise animal owners about general care, medical conditions, and treatments
  • Prescribe medication
  • Work closely in collaboration with team members to provide high quality care
Qualifications
  • Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM/VMD) or equivalent degree required
  • Licensure in the state/s candidate will be working
  • Ability to show compassion to both pets and their owners
  • Outstanding dexterity in handling animals while performing precise tasks
  • Ability to react quickly and make decisions under pressure about the wellbeing of an animal
  • Strong fondness and understanding of animals
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills
  • Knowledge of animal behavior
  • Ability to use medical technologies during diagnosis, research and surgery of animals
