At geo cgi we pride ourselves on not losing our focus. We started out and remain GIS experts (or geeks. . . depending on your perspective). Since 2006, weve evolved into a world-class and worldwide service provider of multiple disciplines. We are a talented, hardworking group that share values and characteristics that drive client, professional, and personal success. Geo cgi is looking for a Geospatial Data Scientist to lead data munging, data processing, and data analysis for the GeoCenter at the United States Agency for International Development (USAID). This position is based on-site in Washington D.C. at the headquarters of USAID, which serves as the US government lead for international development and humanitarian assistance worldwide. The USAID GeoCenter is a team of geographers and data analysts who apply geospatial technology, data analytics, and visualization techniques to improve the strategic planning, design, monitoring, and evaluation of Agency programs. In addition to serving the analytical needs of the Agency, the GeoCenter also collaborates with interagency, international development organizations, and university partners in the geospatial community.
The Geospatial Data Scientist is responsible for working with subject matter experts within the Agency to address priority development challenges, enhance capacity to integrate geospatial data and analysis into routine decision making, and clearly communicate their findings and recommendations. The candidate will perform data integration, data visualization, data mining, and analysis to derive results, and will communicate results to non-technical staff. Specific responsibilities include:

  • Apply data science to support international decision-making: acquire, process, manage, analyze, archive, and communicate data from a range of sources.
  • Collaborate closely with a team of interdisciplinary experts within the GeoCenter.
  • Design, develop and deliver data visualization products (including maps) to support USAID operations at all stages of the program cycle: strategic planning, program design, monitoring, and evaluation of programs.
  • Effectively communicate analytical findings, both orally and in writing, to peers and senior leaders, through briefings, presentations, and memos.
  • Provide training and capacity building services to non-technical audiences on accessing, analyzing, and visualizing data.
  • Self-initiate and manage multiple analytical projects in a time-sensitive environment.
  • Follow advancements in the application of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) for integrating geospatial technology in international development.
As an employee of geo cgi, the candidate will have access to a generous benefits package, in addition to a corporate culture and community of GIS geeks. Our benefits include but are not limited to:
  • Competitive salaries, commensurate with experience and leading Federal Contractors in the geospatial industry.
  • Opportunities for upward mobility in a dynamic fast paced environment within a small company.
  • Merit-based spot and end of year bonuses.
  • Safe Harbor 401(k) plan with immediate vesting.
  • Flexible work hours and PTO.
  • Complete Medical, Dental, and Vision coverage for individuals.
  • Company paid training, certifications, and professional growth and development.
The following are requirements of the Geospatial Data Scientist:
  • US Citizen.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a US Government Secret Clearance.
  • 6 years of experience with a Bachelors degree or 4 years of experience with a Master's degree in Statistics, Geography, Math, Computer Science, Economics, or another related field. Candidates with Masters degrees will be evaluated first.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills and ability to work as part of a team and across diverse international cultures.
  • Quantitative background and experience in data collection, cleaning, manipulation, processing, and applied analysis and visualization using statistical software or programming languages (Python, R, Stata, SAS, SPSS, MATLAB, Tableau, and/or PowerBI).
  • Experience conducting advanced regression and non-linear data analysis.
  • Experience writing organized, clear, and well-documented code to ensure reproducible and scalable analytical routines.
  • Familiarity with Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, and InDesign for producing compelling data visualization and other outputs into briefs, documents, or presentations for senior leadership.
  • Prior experience leading and facilitating projects through concept, iterative design, development, and delivery.
