Job Description

American Lithium Energy in great San Diego area is looking for a highly motivated battery scientist to support the company’s production expansion and technology development efforts. The preferred candidate must have strong background in chemistry, or material science or engineering, and must have hands-on manufacturing/processing experience in Li-ion battery industries. 

The primary duties include leading technical projects and processing studies through cell testing and targeted experiments, designing new experiments, and establishing procedures. This position will also collaborate with customers, program management, external partner and funding agency on technical and project details.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Identify, evaluate, and optimize cathode/anode composites and electrolytes to meet R&D objectives
  • Identify, develop, and implement scalable electrode coating/infiltration techniques
  • Build cells and conduct cell testing, with a focus on rigor, repeatability, and statistical analyses in an industrial setting
  • Identify limiting factors in cell performance, through electrochemical and materials characterization, and destructive physical analysis
  • Effectively communicate procedures, results, and uncertainties, in written documents and in-person meetings
  • Maintain lab cleanliness and champion environmental health and safety in the daily work environment
  • Design and validate new processes and devices
  • Write the technical reports
  • Write the proposals per solicitations
  • Work with cross-functional teams throughout the entire product lifecycle, and work closely with Design Engineering, Quality, and Production to take battery product designs and changes from initial concept through prototype development and into full production
  • Perform other functions as required supporting R&D

Qualifications

  • PHD in chemistry, or material science, or engineering or related field
  • M.S. with 5+ years of experience in lithium-ion RD and/or manufacturing
  • Project management experience a plus
  • Exemplary verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to multi-task across several teams and projects
  • Maintain rigorous and absolute adherence to safety protocols and role modeling same for all colleagues and customers
  • Ability to function autonomously to meet objectives
  • Able to travel when necessary to fulfill objectives
