Job Description:

POSITION SUMMARY:

Under the direction of the PhysicalTherapy Manager, the Physical Therapist is responsible for the directingof physical therapy services. The Physical Therapist maintains efficient andeffective department operations while requiring compliance with all state,federal and local regulatory laws, standards, and protocols.

This jobdescription is intended to identify some of the primary duties andresponsibilities. Mayers Memorial Hospital Districtreserves the right to modify, supplement, delete or augment the duties andresponsibilities specified in this position description, at MAYERS MEMORIALHOSPITAL DISTRICTS sole and absolute discretion.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Three (3) or more years of previous experiencein physical therapy preferred.

2. Current California licensure or certificationas a physical therapist.

3. Knowledge of physical therapy modalities, anatomy,and physiology.

4. Knowledge of disease processes and related causativefactors.

5. Knowledge of benefits/ values of rehabilitativemedicine and physical therapy agents.

6. Knowledge of infection control, steriletechniques and related impact on rehabilitative medicine practice andequipment.

7. Current BCLS certification.

12. Maintains all information as confidential asappropriate, to include payroll, material produced for union negotiations,personnel information, and other information obtained during the course ofperforming job duties that is confidential.

14. Answers phone calls, assists public, andforwards appropriately if necessary and in a professional and friendly manner.

SpecificCompetencies:

1. Coordinates and supervises operation of thedepartment, administers physical agents prescribed by a referring physician.

2. Maintains performance improvement activitieswithin the department and participates incontinuous quality improvement (CQI) activities and assures competencyof all personnel.

3. Assists in the formulating budget, evaluations,department performance versus budget and takes appropriate action to remain inbudget guidelines.

4. Develops and implements system of reviewingdepartment charges, ensures that patient charges are accurate and entered on atimely basis.

5. Ability to observe and evaluate treatmenteffect, recommends change to physician if needed.

6. Ability to perform an appropriate assessment ofall patients as related to the therapy requested and provided and reassessmentsas per policy. This includes neonate, pediatric, adolescent, geriatric patients,and the general patient population.

7. Able to assess patient pain interfering withoptimal level of function or participation in rehabilitation and makesappropriate physician contact for intervention.

8. Performs all aspects of patient care in anenvironment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood ofmedical/ health care errors.

9. Formulates a teaching plan based uponidentified learning needs and evaluations effectiveness of learning, family isincluded in teaching as appropriate.

10. Treats patients and their families with respectand dignity. Identifies and addresses psychosocial, cultural, ethnic, andreligious/ spiritual needs of patients and their families. Functions as liaisonbetween administration, patients, physicians, and other healthcare providers.

11. Manages and operates equipment safely andcorrectly. Maintains department cleanliness and safety. Complies with ongoingdepartmental inspections of equipment and physical space, makes recommendationsregarding equipment utilization and needs.

12. Interacts professionally with patient/ familyand involves patient/ family in the formation of a plan of care.

13. Knowledge of physical therapy machineoperation, maintenance, and repairs of same.

14. Studies current trends and developments inrehabilitative medicine through current literature and professional society.

15. Trains personnel utilizing on-the-job trainingfor nursing and other hospital staff, as well as departmental staff.

ProfessionalRequirements:

1. Adheres to dress code; appearance is neat andprofessional.

2. Completes annual education requirements ifapplicable.

3. Maintains regulatory requirements.

4. Wears identification while on duty.

5. Attends annual evaluation and participates activelyin this process.

6. Reports to work on time and as scheduled;completes work in designated time.

7. Attends all meetings as appropriate.

8. Exhibits the mission, ethics, and goals of MayersMemorial Hospital District in the performance of job duties.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

1. Willingness to work beyondnormal working hours and in other positions temporarily when necessary.

2. Is involved with personnel, visitors, andgovernment agencies, etc., when necessary.

3. Must function independently, have personalintegrity, have flexibility and the ability to work effectively with otherpersonnel, clients, and support agencies.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

1. Sits, stands, bends, lifts,walks, and moves intermittently during working hours.

2. Able to lift 50 lbs.
