The State of California Franchise Tax Board (FTB) is looking for enthusiastic and self-motivated professionals to join our caring workforce. Under the supervision of an Audit Supervisor, the incumbent is responsible for learning all the phases of tax audit work by conducting audits of taxpayers to determine the correct amount of tax in accordance with the Federal & California Tax Laws, audit standards, Audit Regulations, Taxpayer Bill of Rights, resource considerations, policies, and procedures. Tax Auditors will plan and organize multiple audits, work directly with taxpayers or their representatives to obtain and analyze relevant facts, and make appropriate determinations that are fair and impartial. The incumbent will then communicate their findings through written reports or organized meetings. Tax Auditors will be provided with instructions on the laws administered by the department, as well as the basic policies, programs, and procedures of the Franchise Tax Board.

As a Tax Auditor, your duties include:
* Conduct audits of taxpayer's books and records using a variety of FTB resources and computer systems.
* Plan, organize, and manage your audit inventory to ensure the audits are completed within the specified time frames.
* Gather information and documents and prepare audit reports.
* Analyze facts and make appropriate audit determinations based on research and application of the tax law and other applicable authority.
* Confer with taxpayers and/or their legal representatives to request and discuss pertinent information by mail, telephone, or in person.
* Effectively communicate audit findings to the taxpayer and/or their legal representative.

*This position is eligible for remote-working within California based on departmental guidelines and operational need. Some in-office presence required.*
