Description
Position Overview:
This is a key role inside the MDO Holdings finance and accounting team supporting the growth of several key operating portfolio companies. This team member will help oversee many key accounting activities like classifying and recording numerical data to keep financial records complete. Also, performing any combination of routine calculating, posting, and verifying duties to obtain primary financial data for use in maintaining accounting records. In addition, this team member may also check the accuracy of figures, calculations, and postings pertaining to business transactions recorded by other workers.
The successful candidate will possess the following skills:
  • Accounting software:Knowledge of fundamental accounting software systems like Intuit, QuickBooks, and Sage Intacct
  • Cloud-based data access and sharing software: Primarily Google Drive and Dropbox but others can occasionally be utilized.
  • Mathematics: High level use of mathematics to solve problems.
  • Active Listening: Giving full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, asking questions as appropriate, and not interrupting at inappropriate times.
  • Critical Thinking: Using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems.
  • Oral Communication: Talking to others to convey information effectively on multiple levels of financial education.

General Tasks
  • Utilize accounting software to record, store, and analyze information.
  • Check figures, postings, and documents for correct entry, mathematical accuracy, and proper codes.
  • Comply with federal, state, and company policies, procedures, and regulations.
Specific responsibilities
  • Help the accounting/finance team with major financial functions including but not exclusive to: reporting, budgeting, cash management banking, and audit activities.
  • The role will work with all operating portfolio. Those brands currently include:

    • Epic Food Co.
    • Durham Food Hall
    • Rosecomb Beer Garden
  • Maintain financial or account records.
  • Execute sales or other financial transactions.
  • Verify accuracy of financial or transactional data.
  • Compile data or documentation.
  • Getting Information: Observing, receiving, and otherwise obtaining information from all relevant sources.
  • Documenting/Recording Information: Entering, transcribing, recording, storing, or maintaining information.
  • Establishing and Maintaining Interpersonal Relationships: Developing constructive and cooperative working relationships with others and maintaining them over time.
  • Communicating with Supervisors, Peers, or Subordinates: Providing information to supervisors, co-workers, and subordinates by telephone, in written form, e-mail, or in person.
Qualifications
Minimum requirements
In addition to the necessary skills and experience to perform the responsibilities outlined above, there are several traits that a successful candidate will possess.
  • College education preferably in finance-based area of study
  • Minimum of two years experience working in finance/accounting
