Hospice of the Piedmont is seeking a

full-time Grief and Healing Counselor

to provide compassionate and skillful bereavement counseling services to support Hospice families and bereaved community members within our northern territory serving counties in and around Culpeper, VA.

Responsibilities/General Duties (Including but not limited to):

Provides clinical assessment, counseling and support as needed and desired by bereaved family members of HOP patients. Provides telephone contact with bereaved family members of HOP patients, to introduce services and offer intervention. Facilitates bereavement groups/workshops. Accepts referrals and provides counseling services to bereaved individuals and families throughout the community, making community referrals as appropriate. Demonstrates and applies knowledge of emotional, social and spiritual needs and responses to death and grief. Demonstrates and applies knowledge of factors that indicate complicated grief and high survivor risk. Maintains and updates knowledge of community resources. Prepares documentation for the clinical records per HOP standards. Is available evening hours to meet client need. Provides home visits to clients as needed and desired. Participates in agency and community programs, including supervision, to enhance learning and performance. Participates in IDT and staff, department and other meetings as appropriate. Demonstrates understanding of and adherence to professional Codes of Ethics and related organizational policies. Maintains quality and productivity standards and participates in the measurement of these standards. Provides community education on issues of death, loss and grief. Provides community mailings of HOP information, bereavement letters, and notices. Participates in providing support to staff and volunteers related to personal and professional grief and loss issues. Participates in the orientation of volunteers and staff as requested. Adheres to practice of confidentiality regarding patient, families, staff, and the organization. Completes other assignments and tasks as requested. Requirements

Master's degree in social work, counseling, or related field with a minimum of one year's experience in bereavement counseling. Clinical experience with individuals, groups and families. Assessment skills in counseling, interviewing and communicating. Knowledge of the principles and practices of social work and/or counseling techniques. Knowledgeable of group dynamics and the grief process. Intermediate proficiency in word processing software. Must demonstrate basic computer skills.
