PURPOSE: Serves as gatehouse and patrol security officer for Berkeley Hall Club. Ensures all programs and services are conducted and fulfilled in a manner consistent with the goals and objectives of Berkeley Hall Club.


DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES :

GATEHOUSE DUTIES:

  1. Enforces procedural rules and regulations, ensuring the personal safety of staff, members, visitors, and property
  2. Maintains security and safety for assigned areas.
  3. Maintains working knowledge of the locations of various departments, buildings, access routes and admitting requirements.
  4. Operates and monitors security control panels, alarms and related security equipment to provide area and visitor surveillance.
  5. Greets each guest entering property.
  6. Checks decals of persons entering property, denying entry to persons who cannot show either proper identification or cause for being admitted. Explains rules and regulations.
  7. Answers radio calls and responds to routine incidents; secures and protects the scene of civil, criminal or unusual incidents.
  8. Calls police or fire departments in cases of emergency, such as fire or presence of unauthorized persons.
  9. Answers telephone calls, taking messages, answering questions, providing information during business and non-business hours.
  10. Writes reports of daily activities and irregularities such as equipment or property damage, theft, presence of unauthorized persons, or unusual occurrences.
  11. Assists in the evacuation of buildings or areas during emergency situations.
  12. Performs special assignments such as Member gatherings, parties; maintaining crowd control, provides directions, directs traffic, etc.
  13. Acts as information resource to visitors as well as members of the Berkeley Hall community.
  14. Other duties as assigned.

PATROL DUTIES:

  1. Patrols in vehicle or on foot, an assigned area; alert to hazardous, suspicious or unusual conditions and occurrences.
  2. Responds to and investigates situations reported to Main Gatehouse. Notifies Main Gatehouse to call police or other authorities to investigate suspicious activities or security violations that require intervention.
  3. Answers radio calls and responds to routine incidents, securing and protecting the scene of civil, criminal or unusual incidents. Prepares initial or supplemental documentation regarding all activities.
  4. Provides escorts for members and cottage guests as requested, providing transportation as needed; assists ill or injured persons as needed.
  5. Enforces property parking regulations and traffic laws; alerting supervisor to potential towing situations.
  6. Patrols property, inspects buildings, examines doors and windows, checking for intrusions.
  7. Unlocks specified buildings at the beginning of each workday and secures specific buildings by locking buildings and turning off lights and other electrical devices unintentionally left on after officer hours. Any discrepancies noted in written log to be submitted to gatehouse at end of shift.
  8. Observes activity and traffic in assigned area to enforce Berkeley Hall rules & regulations; alerts visitors of infractions; removes unwanted or disruptive visitors from property.
  9. Assists fire department, answering alarms and permitting entry to buildings, locked or unlocked.
  10. Assists police department by monitoring disturbances and referring call to police if violation of the law has occurred.
  11. Other duties as assigned.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS :

  1. Capable of working extended hours, to include weekends and holidays as necessary.
  2. Able to see well enough to read faint or partially obscured writing or printing, with corrective lenses if needed.
  3. Must be able to speak English in a clear and understandable voice so that various types of communications may be conducted with people of various levels of education and capabilities.
  4. Position involves sitting, standing, stopping, kneeling, bending, pushing, shoving, lifting, carrying and moving objects that can weigh up to 75 lbs. This can occur throughout the day.
  5. Must be able to interact with all types of individuals, be mentally alert, detail oriented, and with good reasoning skills.
  6. Must be able to transport oneself throughout the property. Must have a valid state driver’s license.

ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS :

  1. Must be able to work on more than one assignment at a time with frequent interruptions, changes and delays. Must be able to remain focused and work effectively, efficiently and cheerfully under such circumstances. For safety reasons, must remain alert to working conditions and aware of safety, health and environmental concerns.
  2. Must be able to work effectively in an environment which may be stressful due to adversarial situations resulting from the proper performance of duties.
  3. This position will alternate between working indoors in a controlled climate and with proper lighting to an outdoors setting with variable climate and lighting.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS :

  1. High school graduate or equivalent required.
  2. Must be able to obtain SLED license.
  3. Must be able to follow detailed procedures, exercise good judgment and initiative, and have excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  4. Must be able to work independent of supervision.
  5. Able to work a shift pattern, working evenings and weekends and be flexible with working hours to provide shift covers.
  6. Proven discretion, confidentiality, and reliability.

PAY: Salary is open and commensurate with qualifications and experience.
