The BSN RN enters into direct patient care as an ADVANCE RN Level II, and has education and experiences that enable the recognition of recurrent and meaningful components of a situation, knowledge and know-how, advance planning and organizational skills. The BSN RN is responsible for providing safe, quality patient care using the nursing process, anticipating needs, promoting health and not just treating episodes of illness, maintaining effective communication with the multidisciplinary team, and ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements. The BSN RN role requires leadership skills in prioritizing, delegating, promoting teamwork, maximizing resouces, evaluating work assignments, effective problem-solving abilities to respond to changing patient needs, and raising the awareness of evidence-based nursing practice and nursing research JOB FUNCTIONS Clinical Practice: Uses the nursing process to provide safe, quality patient care, anticipates needs, recognizes recurrent and meaninful components of a situation, has knowledge and know-how to address the situation, and documents accordingly. Has effective problem-solving abilities to respond to the changing patient needs, promoting health and not just treating episodes of illness. Works to ensure compliance with all NMHS policies and requirements as directed by the Nurse Manager and Educator. Education: Educates patient and their family about their medical conditions and treatment. Participates in Preceptor Class during first year of employment. Upon completion of preceptor course and validation of competencies, serves as resource and/or preceptor for existing staff. Serves as a Preceptor to ensure proper training of new employees Serves as a Preceptor for nursing students to support their knowledge base and development of clinical skills, as well as critical decision making. Assists in training new Preceptors and validating new Preceptors’s competencies. Supports in raising the awareness of evidence-based nursing practice within the nursing team. Communication: Maintains effective communication with multidisciplinary team members to provide holistic care to the patient. Maintains effective, efficient communication with medical staff pertaining to their patients and changes in the patient conditions. Attends daily huddles on each unit to ensure proper assignments and identify team members for the shift. Customer Relations: Projects caring, friendly and helpful image to patients and other customers. Utilized the patient’s communication board (white board) to identify name, date, goals, other staff and procedures or test for the day to keep the patients and families informed. Consistently complies with the NMHS behavioral standards. Self-Development/Professional Development: Maintains competency by staying informed of changing trends in the nursing practice. Actively participates in and supports in leading unit specific education in coordination with the Nurse Manager or Educator. Attends annual review and unit specifics within the department and has skills t o assist with training. Performs required continuing education hours online and in classroom.Continued professional development and participation in the ADVANCE program is encouraged.
