Role and Responsibilities

The IT Specialist provides support for all activities as they relate to the technological operations and requirements of RCESD1 & RCESD2 as directed by the IT Director.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The following duties are not inclusive of all responsibilities and the incumbent may perform other duties as assigned by the Emergency Services Chief or Designee:

  • Level I and II support of all aspects of technology for RCESD1 & RCESD2, including the daily operations of all computers, servers, mobile devices, and internal phone systems used by RCESD1 & RCESD2 and their employees.
  • Maintains the security of all electronic data exchanged and saved within RCESD1 & RCESD2 internal network as well as its backup systems, to ensure compliance with privacy and HIPAA regulations.
  • Provides daily support for all technology issues as needed or requested by RCESD1 & RCESD2 employees through a support (Help Desk) ticketing system. Escalating Level II and III tickets to the IS Battalion Chief, that are out of the scope of training for the IT Specialist position.
  • Acts as software support to RCESD1 & RCESD2 employees, providing technical assistance to all staff.
  • Installs, configures, maintains, and troubleshoots a wide range of software used throughout RCESD1 & RCESD2. Performs hardware/software upgrades to existing computer equipment as needed.
  • Monitor industry Web sites or publications for information about patches, releases, viruses, or potential problem identification.
  • Perform routine maintenance or standard repairs to networking components or equipment.
  • As a member of the help desk services staff, responds to software problem calls on site or over the phone for users. Investigates error messages and determines resolution. Reinstalls program or replaces files that are causing errors. Calls software vendor or accesses on line technical support to obtain software update. Investigates appropriate areas of potential problem and determines resolution.
  • Trains users in startup, basic and advanced use of software programs including Microsoft Office.
  • Initiates and maintains a preventative maintenance schedule on all technology equipment assigned in the Help Desk.
  • Backup of network data.
  • Maintain logs of network activity.
  • Performs all other duties as requested by the IS Battalion Chief.
Qualifications and Education Requirements
  • Minimum of High School diploma or GED.
  • Associates degree in an information technology related field is preferred.
  • Minimum of two years of relevant work experience is preferred.

Preferred Skills

Prefer candidate to have computer skills, interpersonal relations skills, and a strong belief in customer centricity.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

The successful incumbent should have the following knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSAs):

  • Technical knowledge of the techniques and procedures of software and network support for multiple users.
  • Strong communication and training skills and be able to communicate technical information to non-technical users.
  • Knowledge of installation, configuration and troubleshooting processes for software, hardware, networking and accessory equipment.
  • Knowledge of personal computer equipment.
  • Advanced skills in personal computer word processing, spreadsheet, and Windows.
  • Analytical skills to assess problems or unusual situations and develop solutions.
  • Ability to independently perform all of the duties of the position efficiently and effectively.
  • Ability to install, configure, troubleshoot and maintain all of the software applications and peripheral equipment used at RCESD1 & RCESD2.
