Are you passionate about shaping the future of humanity's presence in space? Lunar Outpost, a trailblazer in space robotics, invites you to join our team! Lunar Outpost is dedicated to creating a sustainable presence in space, while also driving positive impacts here on Earth. We are
seeking
a talented, experienced
Localization + Perception SW Responsible Engineer
to
define the future of lunar surface mobility in a fast-paced startup environment.
As a
Localization + Perception SW Responsible Engineer
, you will spearhead the design and implementation of sophisticated localization, state estimation, sensor fusion,
perception
, and mapping systems. These systems are crucial for our lunar rovers' ability to navigate and understand the lunar terrain autonomously,
identifying
obstacles and
optimizing
path planning. Your role is central to our mission, enabling the rovers to perform complex exploration tasks with unprecedented accuracy and reliability. Collaborating with multidisciplinary teams,
you'll
lead the effort to turn conceptual designs into operational systems, contributing to our goal of
establishing
a sustainable presence in space.
Key Responsibilities:
Design and develop advanced localization and
perception
systems for global and local scope, ensuring precise rover navigation on the lunar surface
Implement
state-of-the-art
techniques in sensor fusion,
leveraging
data from multiple sensors to enhance system accuracy and reliability
Develop and refine algorithms for terrain and obstacle mapping,
facilitating
effective path planning and rover autonomy
Lead the integration of
perception
systems with rover hardware, ensuring seamless operation in lunar environments
Collaborate with engineering teams across disciplines (mechanical, electrical, thermal) to align system designs with overall rover specifications and mission
objectives
Oversee the testing and validation of localization and
perception
systems through simulations and field trials, ensuring performance meets project goals
Mentor junior engineers and technical staff, providing guidance and support to foster innovation and technical excellence
Utilize project management skills to coordinate
additional
engineering support, ensuring
timely
progress and adherence to project milestones
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree
or higher
in
Computer Science, Robotic Engineering, or related field
A minimum
of
5
years of
experience
in localization, perception,
sensor fusion, and mapping technologies, ideally in the context of autonomous vehicles and/or robotics

perception
systems, such as C++, Python, and experience with ROS
Experience in research and development of
perception
and localization in unstructured
/off-road
environments
U.S. Person
Preferred Qualifications:
Ph.D. in Robotics, Computer Science, or a closely related field, with a focus on localization,
perception
,
mapping,
or sensor fusion
Prior experience with space robotics or autonomous systems designed for
space or other unstructured
environments
Prior experience developing al
gorithms for resource constrained systems
Published research or contributions to open-source projects in areas relevant to localization, sensor fusion, or autonomous navigation
Proven leadership abilities and experience managing technical teams or projects, with the capability to drive projects from concept to completion
