The Role:

The Sr. Electrical Engineering position will be responsible for technical assistance with the scoping, planning, designing, and executing of on-site capital projects with the knowledge and ability to successfully guide them from inception to completion. The Sr. Electrical Engineer will be the primary point of contact for external engineering firms, equipment suppliers, and construction contractors for all electrical questions and issues that arise on capital projects. This position will provide technically based electrical engineering support for large capital projects which include production, maintenance, growth, regulatory, and environmental issues.

What You'll Do:

  • Participate and lead (the electrical engineering portion) of capital projects from inception to successful completion. This will include the development of scope, equipment specifications and data sheets, preliminary equipment pricing, engineering drawings, project schedule and project budget for all electrical, controls, instrumentation, and PLC/DCS portions of the project.
  • Verify proper wire/conductor sizes, MCC bucket sizes, VFD's, transformer and substation sizing. Must be able to determine the appropriate power (480V, 240V, 110V, 24VDC) requirements for all production equipment and ancillary equipment for the project.
  • Work with and monitor the performance of outside consulting engineering firms in the development of detailed electrical, controls, instrumentation and PLC/DCS design engineering drawings, specifications, electrical design related documents and cost estimates.
  • Check all electrical drawings and calculations.
  • Develop electrical equipment specifications and data sheets, review electrical drawings and schematics, and work with others to implement final electrical equipment selection, purchase, installation, and system start-up.
  • Work with, monitor, and inspect the electrical/controls installation of a project and coordinate with electrical field personnel/contractors to resolve any design and drawing related technical and performance issues for both capital projects and for in-house plant modifications.
  • Participate in system start-up and debugging for new and retrofitted equipment.
  • Mentor younger engineers and on-site electricians.

What You'll Need:

Education:

  • Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering
  • 7-10 years of industrial working experience post college/grad school

Experience:

  • Industrial plant or design experience in corn wet milling, food production, chemical, pharma, etc. preferred.
  • Capital project experience with project values in excess of $10 million preferred. Must be able to work on more than one project at a time.

General electrical engineering knowledge in:

  • Power Distribution including MCC's, substations, transformers, lighting panels, and distribution panels. Control panels, HMI's, PLC's, Control Systems and DCS Systems including remote and flex I/O. Candidate does not need to be a PLC or DCS system programmer.
  • Building Systems including indoor/outdoor lighting, HVAC, fire protection, warehousing, and emergency/backup power.
  • Instrumentation specification, wiring, calibration and troubleshooting.
  • Electrical/Controls/Instrumentation equipment specification, purchase, installation, and construction oversight.
  • Knowledge in co-generation preferred.
  • Knowledge of completing electrical drawings and schematics in AutoCAD preferred.

Business Travel:

  • If based in Keokuk, assignments would be on-site 5 days.
  • If based in Gurnee, project assignments would require up to 30% travel to the Keokuk, IA site for a few days at a time. . Most of project travel will occur at the beginning of the project and then during the start-up/commissioning stage of the project.
  • During system start-up and commissioning extended work hours may be expected.
