WSP is seeking a Transmission Line Engineering Manager to join our team in our growing Power & Energy team in Milwaukee, WI. The following locations will also be considered: NY, NY, Boston, MA and Rochester, NY. The Transmission Line Engineering Manager is primarily responsible for supervising a staff of technical designers and engineers responsible for the development of engineering designs, cost estimates, and communication of technical and design information to our customers. The Transmission Line Engineering is a subject matter expert in the design of transmission line projects with voltages from 69 kV to 500 kV HVAC. The Transmission Line Engineering Manager ensures compliance with client procedures, design standards, state and federal regulatory requirements, and safety code requirements and, at times, will collaborate closely with engineers performing substation, transmission, renewable energy, power storage, and communication design.

Your Impact
  • Deliver high-quality transmission line engineering projects with voltages 69 kV to 500 kV to our USA Clients.
  • Perform QAQC on transmission line engineering projects and provide Professional Engineering certification of project drawings and deliverables.
  • Incorporate updated design codes and practices on an ongoing basis with the Transmission Line Engineering practice.
  • Develop Transmission Line Engineering & Design Standards.
  • Supervise technical staff in the preparation of utility engineering designs, cost estimates, and customer billing.
  • Manage schedules and assign technical staff projects and daily work.
  • Manage the development of the technical staff through mentoring, instructing on technical engineering principles, and governing electrical and safety codes.
  • Instruct and teach the technical staff in the use of computer systems and software, tools and equipment.
  • Manage and provide guidance and direction for professional communication with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Coordinate internal/external reviews of designs completed prior to submissions.
  • Evaluate the performance and development of technical staff.
  • Collaborate with the department managers to develop, evaluate, and implement new policies and procedures which reflect best engineering practices.
  • Collaborate with other departments and divisions on company-wide initiatives.
  • Maintain great relationships with our existing clients and seek out opportunities with potential future clients.
  • Develop technical training for engineering staff related to the field of transmission line engineering.
  • Collaborate with professionals from a variety of disciplines to provide "trusted advisor" service and future ready solutions for clients.
  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP's Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
Who You Are

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil/Structural or Electrical, Engineering from an ABET-accredited engineering program.
  • Active PE licensure and ability to obtain PE licensure in all 50 States.
  • This is a supervisory level position requiring 12+ years of experience in Power Transmission Design.
  • Professional disposition and the ability to be open-minded when it comes to planning and execution of projects being worked on by staff.
  • Must be able to effectively supervise a team of Engineers & Engineering Technicians while maintaining work product quality, consistency, accuracy, and reliability.
  • Advanced design experience of overhead & underground transmission line projects with voltages from 69 kV to 500 kV AC. Experience with HVDC is a plus.
  • Experience with NESC, ASCE, IEEE, and other industry-relevant standards
  • Expert proficiency in PLS-CADD, MFAD, LPILE, PSCAD, AutoCAD, and other industry software.
  • Expert proficiency in MS Office Software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint & Project)
  • Tactical lateral thinking and strong analytical skills with attention to detail and prioritization of responsibilities in a pressure work environment.
  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP's health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
  • Strong ability to quickly adapt to change and demonstrate flexibility to a variety of schedules and hours to meet business needs.
  • Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's Degree in Engineering.
  • Experience leading an engineering team, demonstrating proficiency in resource management and delegation of engineering tasks.
  • Experience providing technical direction for a department/organization in the field of expertise.

Compensation:
Expected Salary (all locations): $130,300 - $240,790

WSP USA is providing the compensation range that the company in good faith believes it might pay and offer for this position, based on the successful applicant's education, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities in addition to internal equity and specific geographic location.
