- Number of beds on unit: 24 private beds
- Patient population: Medical-surgical, serving patients admitted for illness, surgery, and various diagnoses, typically above 17 years of age.
- Nurse to Patient ratio: 1:5 (occasionally 1:6)
- Department culture and resources: Fast-paced unit with medically complex patients. Emphasis on teamwork and communication for safe and quality care.
- Frequent nursing skills/equipment used: Nursing assessments, medication administration, collaboration with multiple disciplines, IV insertion, foley insertion, tracheostomy care, wound care, ostomy care, BLS (within 30 days of hire).
Responsibilities:
- Administer medications and IV piggyback meds.
- Assist with trach care, dressing changes, and documentation.
- Communicate with physicians/APPs and coordinate patient care.
