Power U requires a competent and organized Communications Manager who can help tell the story of Power U and the transformational work needed to change our communities and schools. Power U is fiscally sponsored by Highlander The Movement School. Ideal Candidates are aspiring change makers who are comfortable working with all ages and community members of socio economic backgrounds and are committed to the values of racial, economic, and gender justice (see the Power U Principles of Unity on our website). Approximate % of time / frequency Key Responsibilities 50% Content Creation Work in a team to execute the overall communications strategy of the organization and its attached campaigns. Capture campaign-related activities to promote via social media and other communications projects. Regularly create social media content in collaboration with active members. Draft and revise organizational communications (press releases, blog posts, letters to the editor, and editorial materials) in consultation with core staff. Document events and co-produce photos, videos, and audio for online production. Produce monthly newsletters about the organization's progress in collaboration with core staff. Work with membership to develop periodic swag and collateral that represents the organization’s brand and aesthetic. Work with the Process Central Team to develop an annual yearbook and fundraiser materials. Produce bi-annual zine in collaboration with other organizations and Community members, including the release event. 20% Capacity Building of Organization & Staff Develop reports via Every Action and social media insights for communications reports every quarterly staff retreat. Manage, update, and troubleshoot the Power U website and all other external communications. Train new staff on any Everyaction, Slack, and other tech needs. Manage and keep track of usage of all communications hardware and technology. Collaborate with organizations in the ecosystem, seek opportunities, and bring work together. 20% Documentarian & Press Work Work with the Communications Committee to train members in communications skills Conduct 1:1s with reporters and local media in order to represent organizational voice and perspective. Train members on communications-related projects 10% Miscellaneous Working with staff to support joint projects for the organization Review key readings and study foundational concepts of the organization. Attendance and participation in staff meetings and retreats. Participate in strategic and annual organizational planning and evaluation. Represent the mission, strategic plan, and work plan of Highlander in meetings. fieldwork and events. Share Power U’s history and educational process with others. Keep constituents at the center of the work; maintain respectful interactions that support the development of individuals and groups. Serve on staff committees. Accept organizational tasks as assigned Required Skills & Abilities: Required: Experience with graphic design applications (Adobe Indesign, Illustrator, etc.) Experience in setting up audio and visual equipment to document and record events Social Media Management (creating content for TikTok, Instagram, etc.) Website & IT Management (WordPress, OneDrive, etc.) Copywriting (Preferred) Experience in using a CRM (EveryAction is Preferred CRM of Power U) Experience in Social Justice Work (1-3 Years)

You must be open and willing to receive feedback from various staff in order to improve the quality of work. Commitment to self study. The organization has a practice or studying together to understand current problems and societal issues that inform our work. This position requires study in order to inform copywrite tasks. Self-Starter. This position’s success depends on your ability to manage your workload. You will need to take the initiative to seek out projects on your own at times for the sake of the organization. Taking Responsibility for Your Emotions. The role is deeply tied to being able to understand and navigate your emotions to lead under pressure in grounded ways. Ethical Conduct: Demonstrating integrity and ethical behavior in all aspects of the job, including respecting passenger confidentiality and adhering to legal and regulatory requirements. Physical Requirements: Requirements: While performing duties, employees are regularly required to transport audio equipment or misc meeting materials. Sit and stand for extended periods. Travel or Location Requirements: Must have reliable transportation to travel across Miami Dade County for meetings and attend weekly staff meetings and membership meetings in person.
