Job Summary
The Respiratory Care Clinical Specialist reports to the Director via Manager. This position provides technical support for respiratory care and partners with service leadership to support staff professional development, quality and performance improvement, and safety training for activities associated with the Respiratory Care Service.

For roles covered by a bargaining unit agreement, there will be specific rules about where a new hire would be placed on the range.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in related area
  • Minimum of four (4) years of experience in respiratory care with two years as a RT II/Clinical Team Leader, or RCS Clinical Specialist (or equivalent experience)
  • Maintains advanced knowledge in respiratory care theory and industry best practices.
  • Proven ability to apply knowledge and skills to recommend improvements to Respiratory operations
  • Knowledge of medical center, and UC policies and processes
  • Deep knowledge of all relevant cardiopulmonary industry federal, state and local laws and regulations
  • Ability to apply policy knowledge to proactively identify potential risk areas in Respiratory Care
  • Learning leadership skills in mentoring and advising employees
  • Gaining skills to effectively manage employees along with multiple priorities
  • Interpersonal skills to work collaboratively, coordinate and integrate with others throughout the organization
  • Maintains rapport and professional relationships with peers, peers in the industry, patients, multidisciplinary team members, management
  • Advanced knowledge in respiratory care theory and industry best practices
  • Proven ability to apply knowledge and skills to recommend improvements to Respiratory operations
  • Knowledge of medical center, and UC policies and processes
  • Deep knowledge of all relevant cardiopulmonary industry federal, state and local laws and regulations
  • Ability to apply policy knowledge to proactively identify potential risk areas in Respiratory Care
  • Proven analytical abilities and problem solving skills to quickly evaluate complex issues and identify options for resolution
  • Demonstrates sound judgement
  • Demonstrated abilities to listen actively, understand varying viewpoints and receive feedback
  • Skills to tactfully articulate and teach respiratory patient care concepts to staff
  • Knowledge and proven analytical ability to assess Respiratory databases, protocols and guidelines to troubleshoot issues
  • Intermediate proficiency in MS Office tools
License/Certification
  • Licensed Respiratory Care Practitioner in the state of California
  • Active credential as a Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) by the National Board of Respiratory Therapy
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) for healthcare providers (HCP) certification
  • Advanced credential (ie. ACCS, NPS, CPFT, AE-C)
  • Advanced certification (ie. ACLS, PALS, NRP)

Our Respiratory Department serves UCSF West Bay campuses, Parnassus Heights, Mt. Zion, Mission Bay and Ambulatory Care. We provide age-specific, assessment and interventions to meet the needs of patients served. We participate in specialized aspects of adult respiratory patient care, including but not limited to, discharge planning, physiological measurement, and advanced diagnostic and therapeutic procedures.
