BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES:

  • Plan, coordinate, direct, and oversee the daily operations in the Medical Oncology infusion area.
  • Supervises staff and facilitates communication with physicians and LIP's to provide optimal patient care.
  • Rose model in communication to encourage colleagues through example.
  • Mentor and train new staff while providing support and guidance to all staff members.
  • Monitor medical charts and administer compassionate care and assistance to patients & families.
  • Involvement in performance improvement activities for the department.
  • Creating balanced assignments for nursing staff.
  • Assisting with scheduling of the nursing staff.
  • Record and maintain accurate reports and statistics.
  • Liaise with doctors and administrators and communicate any protocol changes to staff.
  • Ensure compliance with all health and safety regulations.
  • Escalates patient issues to the appropriate manager.
  • Takes appropriate action to address patient concerns and complaints.
  • Ensures compliance and adherence with Stony Brook Medicine policies, procedures, and protocols.

SPECIAL SKILLS OR EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Minimum of 3 years work experience as a Charge Nurse or similar role required.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Compassionate with sound judgment and problem-solving.
  • ONS/Chemotherapy Immunotherapy Certification preferred or obtained within 3 months.
  • BLS Required.
  • Current NYS RN License
  • Experience in Cerner/Power Chart EMS preferred. 
  • Potential for exposure to biohazardous waste/chemicals/fumes/vapors.

·    Successfully complete pre-employment physical examination and obtain medical clearance from Stony Brook Southampton's Employee Health Services*

·    Successfully complete a 4-panel drug screen*

·    Meet Regulatory Requirements for pre-employment screenings.

·    Provide a copy of any required New York State license(s)/certificate(s).

Failure to comply with any of the above requirements could result in a delayed start date and/or revocation of the employment offer.
