Summary Job Description:
Under general supervision, an employee in this class performs work in accordance with professional practices, special orders from doctors, and established rules and regulations. General assignments are usually received from a professional nursing staff and the incumbent is expected to perform these duties without detailed instructions. Work is received through observation, through records kept, and through
reports submitted.
Position Responsibilities:

  • Gives medication and nursing treatment as prescribed by physician;
  • Notes reactions of patients to medications and treatments;
  • Assists in clinic work; Obtains medical history of patients;
  • Assists physicians, applies dressings, and gives inoculations;
  • Gives advice and counsel to residential personnel on the care and handling of children with
    physical problems;
  • Provides emergency treatment for illnesses and injuries;
  • Provides bedside care for children confined to the Health and Wellness Center or Cottage;
  • Oversee arrangement of visits of children to doctor's offices and to hospitals;
  • Writes reports and maintains charts on the condition and progress of children
Qualifications:
  • Knowledge of Nursing principles and techniques and their relation to medical practice
  • Knowledge of medical procedures, sanitation and personal hygiene
  • Knowledge of communicable diseases and methods of containment
  • Skill in the application of professional Nursing techniques and practices
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions of a technical and professional nature in exact detail and to administer therapeutic treatments prescribed by physician
  • Ability to recognize and interpret symptoms
  • Ability to instruct other Agency personnel on the care of patients
  • Ability to administer treatment to patients while dealing with them in a sympathetic and tactful manner.
  • Graduation from an accredited school of Nursing and current New York State Nurse License
