SUMMARY : Under the supervision of the Lead Office Coordinator and or Radiology Manager/Director the Staff Radiology Office Coordinator is responsible for radiology office duties including but not limited to answering department phone, entering patient visits into the RIS system in a timely, efficient manner. Coordinates and schedule patients with physician orders, taking into account preparations and the possibility of conflicts of procedures. Obtains authorizations on select outpatient procedures if required. Attends to related staff meetings and perform other related duties as needed to facilitate work flow and promote health care.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS :

  1. Has a complete knowledge of RIS, HIS, PACS systems as they pertain to the Department of Radiology.

  1. Obtains necessary information to provide detailed subpoena / copy services with coordination with Medical Records Department.

  1. Accurately enters orders and scans original orders into RIS system.

  1. Coordinates radiology special procedures with Radiologists, Radiologic Technologists and Radiology Nurse-if needed. Maintains an open line of communication among various levels of hospital staff, physicians and patients.

  1. Maintains knowledge of medical terminology as related to the Radiology Department. Knowledgeable in insurance intake, authorizations, ICD 10 codes, CPT codes, HCPCS codes

  1. Promptly and courteously answers phone calls. Mails and faxes transcribed reports as needed.

  1. Possesses detailed knowledge of procedures and uses the knowledge to accurately schedule within the appropriate time slots, give preparation instructions and answer any procedural questions for the patient.

  1. Maintains working knowledge of HIPAA regulations reproduces and releases medical images on DVD and or digital transfer following the guidelines and policies set forth by the district.

OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Ability to communicate effectively with patients, physicians, and hospital staff members.

  1. Practice good phone etiquette at all times.

  1. Independent thinking to exercise good judgment in determining actions in emergency situations.

  1. Other duties as assigned from time to time by the lead technologist, radiology manager and or director.

  1. Adhere to the behavioral standards and other policies set forth by the district.

  1. Completion of all educational and other related requirements annually by the district.

EDUCATION, KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES, EXPERIENCE & SKILLS REQUIRED :

  1. High School Graduate or equivalent
  2. Good phone and computer skills
  3. Medical terminology
