Radiologic Technologist (Rad Tech)

To perform routine radiographic procedures on designated portion of the body for use by physicians in diagnosing and treating patient illness and/or injury to ensure patient safety and quality care. The role of the radiology technologist I is to ensure Customer Satisfaction, to support an atmosphere of respect and professionalism among other associates, including students from the School of Radiology along with performing advanced imaging in Surgery and Fluoroscopy.<ul><li>Positions patient and adjusts equipment, secures, and immobilizes support devices as needed to perform procedures.</li><li>Determines appropriate radiographic technique based on anatomy and patient's condition to obtain quality films to provide to the radiologists.</li><li>Secures history from patient regarding reason for prescribed tests, medication reconciliation and records on appropriate form for the radiologist's review.</li><li>Assists radiologists with routine fluoroscopic and/or invasive procedures.</li><li>Operates portable radiographic equipment and C-arm effectively in patient room, intensive care, and surgery.</li><li>Initiates request for emergency medical support as indicated by patient condition; this is to include code blue, rapid response, etc.</li><li>Documents all allergic reactions according to departmental and hospital policy.</li><li>Transports patients into and out of department as necessary.</li><li>Checks film quality to assure optimal quality is attained and correct film labeling is provided.</li><li>Performs quality control activities, responds to inquiries, coordinates patient flow, and communicates with staff radiologists and other hospital personnel to ensure exams are completed in a timely fashion.</li><li>Prepares radiographic/fluoroscopic rooms for procedures, maintains equipment, and supplies as required.</li><li>Reports deficient inventory of supplies and linen to Lead Technologist.</li><li>Provides direction and instruction to students in general procedures.</li><li>Maintains positive "guest relations" and telephone etiquette following prescribed departmental policies and procedures.</li><li>Perform all other job duties as assigned.</li></ul><ul><li>Take thorough and accurate patient medical histories.</li><li>Maintain safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules and regulations.</li><li>Position and immobilize patient on examining table.</li><li>Use radiation safety measures and protection devices to comply with government regulations and to ensure safety of patients and staff.</li><li>Position imaging equipment and adjust controls to set exposure time and distance, according to specification of examination.</li></ul>
