JOB SUMMARY

The Pre/Post First Responder provides patient care to Burning Man Project (BMP) and Nevada Operations (NVO) staff and volunteers involved in the set-up and take-down of Black Rock City infrastructure. Patient care is provided in accordance with established protocols at the first aid scope of care. The Pre/Post Medical Responder models and encourages the ESD core values of Integrity, Communication, Commitment, and Support .

 

This is a temporary, full-time , Exempt role, based in Black Rock City, Nevada running from July to October , 2024.

DUTIES & ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Provides direct patient care at the level of first-aid  in accordance with ESD pre/post protocols.
  • Must maintain a mental and physical status that allows them to respond to emergencies occurring on the work site while on shift in a rapid,  professional, and sober manner.
  • Is available for on-call response after hours as scheduled.
  • Thoroughly and accurately documents all patient care and patient encounters.
  • Assist in getting ESD’s core event infrastructure operational by stocking stations, bags, and vehicles.
  • Maintains the ability to stay calm and clearly communicate in a variety of situations with persons of all backgrounds.

 

PERCENTAGE OF TIME SPENT

Patient Care (60%)

  • Providing direct patient care following established protocols under medical direction.

 

Documentation (15%)

  • Documenting all patient contacts according to guidelines in a timely manner.

 

Assisting with building and demobilization of BRC/ESD infrastructure (20%)

  • Supporting DPW/NVO, ESD, and other BMP departments with construction and deconstruction of infrastructure relating to the Burning Man event.

 

Other Functions and Responsibilities (5%)

  • Perform other duties as assigned.


LEARNING AND TEACHING

  • Documentation - Assists in the creation, publishing, and maintenance of process documentation related to their assigned duties.
  • Knowledge sharing – Helps acculturate and educate junior staff in Burning Man culture and business processes.
  • Training development - Collaborates with the education team to develop training materials in their area of expertise, as requested.
  • Learning – Pursues ongoing learning in their area of expertise, working to stay current on emergent knowledge, skills, and processes.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

REQUIRED

  • Ability to adjust schedule seasonally to work at the Burning Man event held in Nevada
  • Certified Emergency Medical Technician(or higher) in a US state

 

PREFERRED

  • It is helpful if the candidate has previously been to Burning Man and/or is familiar with its culture.
  • Current Nevada EMT certification

REQUIRED LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS

  • Valid driver’s license and a good driving record
  • Current EMT certification
  • Incident Command System (ICS) 100, 200, 700, 800
  • Basic Life Support (BLS)

 

COMPENSATION: 

Individual compensation decisions are dependent on a variety of factors, including prior experience and geographical location. The anticipated pay rate for this position is $850 to $900 per week .

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • On-playa: This position requires periods of heavy lifting, bending, kneeling, squatting, and climbing. This position will be physically demanding, and requires individuals with good physical health, and endurance. Work will include the need to find and meet with department representatives who may not be in the vicinity therefore this could include walking or using some form of transportation. Much of the work will be in outside weather conditions and will be exposed to fumes or airborne particles as well as possible extremes in temperature.
