Position Summary
The College of Arts & Sciences, Interdisciplinary Science Cooperative's Transformation Network at the University of New Mexico invites applications for a post doc to begin in August 2024. Applicants must have a PhD in environmental sciences, environmental justice, regenerative agriculture, sustainability studies or a related field by date of appointment.
The Transformation Network (TN), a National Science Foundation grant, is seeking recent recipients of a doctoral degree for a fellowship that will support and enhance the synthesis of research efforts across the network and expand upon the ongoing research efforts across network. The TN is a transdisciplinary research effort representing diverse communities, sectors, disciplines, and backgrounds aimed at improving regional sustainability. Using a convergent research and education plan, the Network focuses on how headwaters and headwater dependent systems, regional food-energy-water systems, and innovative institutions and approaches to governance can be integrated to help direct urban and rural systems along trajectories that result in a sustainable future for humans and the environment. Network research projects and educational activities are designed to co- produce knowledge with regional partners and utilize a novel framework for Guided Transformation that incorporates diverse perspectives, includes Indigenous and place-based knowledge, and values community and environmental well-being.
This project connects eight universities across the Intermountain West, including the University of New Mexico, New Mexico Tech, New Mexico State University, Colorado State University, the University of Arizona, Northern Arizona University, Utah State University, and Washington State University. The postdoctoral fellowship will be based in Albuquerque, New Mexico and the fellow will be supported by faculty at the University of New Mexico; however, this position will provide opportunities to connect and collaborate with research faculty across all funded institutions. This position is intended support early career researchers and provide them with research experience, mentorship, and training that will establish them as leaders in convergent research. This fellowship will support the researcher for a period of up to two years, and includes a stipend, health insurance, and funding for conferences and presentations. This position will also include mentoring graduate students in the TN, particularly in at the UNM campus where the fellowship is based. This is not a remote position, and the fellow will be expected to become vibrant part of the research community.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
a)Ph.D. in environmental sciences, environmental justice, regenerative agriculture, sustainability studies or closely related field by start date of appointment
b)Applicants should have received their PhD no more than five years prior to the start of the fellowship.
c)Applicants must have at least one first author publication accepted in or published in an international peer reviewed journal at the time of the application.
d)Demonstrated ability to work as part of a team.
e)Demonstrated ability to communicate research results to both expert and non-expert audiences.
