General Summary:
The Phlebotomist II is responsible for performing blood/body fluid collections and obtaining specimens as ordered by the provider. This position is also expected to use their knowledge of phlebotomy to collect the blood/specimen in the correct container for analysis and is to use safety and infection control procedures. The Phlebotomist II is also responsible for conducting CLIA waived test kits and urinalysis and urine microscopic evaluation.

Main Responsibilities:
• Perform vein puncture on patients in lab
• Prepare equipment to efficiently collect blood products
• Maintain equipment operation including Quality Control
• Collect other body fluids from patients as directed
• Perform diagnostic procedures/laboratory tests and interpret test results
• Enter/retrieve patient data utilizing office’s laboratory system
• Conduct CLIA waived test kits
• Perform urinalysis and urine microscopic evaluation
• Generate CBC (Complete Blood Count) analyses and order smear or further review by Laboratory Tech based on results
• Ease the patient’s fear and concern surrounding the phlebotomy experience
• Assist patient with clinical, insurance or office questions fully or guide the patient to the proper line of assistance
• Assist in training new employees
• Practice sterilization and infection control
• Stock/order lab supplies as needed
• May be moved to other offices upon request based upon the business need of Holston Medical Group on an occasional basis.

  • Perform wet prep/KOH microscopic evaluation


Education/Experience/Knowledge:
• High School diploma or equivalent required
• Licensed Phlebotomist
• 5+ years phlebotomy experience
• Ability to work under pressure
• Self starter, ability to work alone
• Exceptional attention to detail
• Must have strong Customer Service Skills and a friendly attitude
