Paramedic - Evenings

Under the general supervision of the Director of Emergency Services, is responsible for safe, effective, and quality patient and family centered care in the Emergency Department.
Quality:
• Follows Huggins Hospital's mission, vision and philosophy of care
• Adheres to the standards of care and scope of practice for Paramedics as outlined by the National Registry and the State of New Hampshire
• Participates in quality review within the department and assists with performance improvement projects
Patient Advocacy:
• Develops and/or implements an individualized plan of care, including developmental and cultural needs
• Utilize appropriate resources for non-English speaking patients, hearing and sight impaired individuals, and/or healthcare illiteracy
• Take proactive steps to recognize and report suspected abuse including child abuse, sexual abuse, spousal abuse, report to your supervisor and appropriate authorities
• Clear communication of the patient's plan of care and education at a level the patient family and caregiver can
Paramedic Clinical Competency:
• Plans, evaluates, directs and renders care per established standards of care
• Manages patient specimens per hospital policy
• Performs medication reconciliation and administers medication safely and appropriately using the 5 rights of medication administration
• Participates in Emergency operations preparedness training and response as required
• Facilitates learning experiences, assists peers with care and participates with orientation of new employees and precepting students
• Ability to rapidly problem solve and deliver care in a calm and efficient manner in high stress
Professionalism:
• Demonstrated ability to work independently and within a team environment
• Adheres to standard and applicable codes of conduct that govern behavior among peers and colleagues to create an environment promoting cooperation, respect and trust
• Maintains professionalism by conforming to Huggins Hospital dress code
• Continues professional growth by maintaining education hours for license renewals
• Maintains certifications: ACLS, BCLS, PALS, NRP.

Employee Engagement:
• Actively participates in all hospital Service Excellence initiatives and trainings
• Attends and participates in a minimum of 50% department staff meetings and signs off on review of 100% department staff meeting minutes
• Completes all required annual education on or before the due date

• Minimal physical effort required with occasional light lifting to a maximum of 25 pounds; stooping; and pick, pinch, type, or otherwise work primarily with fingers

• Familiarity with computer and other business machines
Qualifications:
Education: Graduate of an approved Paramedic program
Experience: Minimum two (2) years in Paramedic role preferred, hospital experience preferred
Job License and Certification:
PALS
Paramedic State of New Hampshire
ACLS
BLS (Basic Life Support) certification required
NRP (Neonatal Rustication) certification required (must be obtained within 1 yr of hire)
